When did Ka-bar first begin using 1095 cro-van?

Was 1095 Chrome Vanadium already the norm on the fighting/utility knives when Alcas/Cutco was making them under contract for the Cole firm, or was Cro-Van use begun after Alcas/Cutco purchased the Ka-bar brand? Also, if anyone has an idea of the year that Ka-bar started using 1095 Cro-Van steel, I'd appreciate that input... Much thanks in advance :)

I don't know when Kabar started using it, but Western was using a 1095-CV alloy back in the 1950s already, that Case was using a 1095CV formulation at least back to the mid/late 60s, probably earlier.

I would suspect that Kabar was using around the same time as Western was using it.

Were their formulations the same? Maybe, depending on suppliers used. A 1095 from one should be a 1095 from someone else. It's when you start tweaking the formulation is when you get minor differences in performance - 1% each C & V or 1% C .75 V or .75 C 1% V or so on.

That's a very interesting question. If I may piggyback on it a little bit, from the time that Kabar started using 1095cv, has the HT remained constant, or has it been tweaked over the years to optimize performance as we learn more and more about metallurgy?
