When did the 100 series guard change?

Wondering when the guards changed from the nice tapered transition from the handle. To the current style without the taper? Thanks.
 
I think eveled is referring to the top portion of the guard. I have two older 118 with 4 spacers and the top of the guard tapers smoothly back to meet the handle. Instead of the current guards which are just flat.
 
The one on the right is a 3 line 73-81 with the tapered guard. The left is an X date code from 1990 with the nontapered guard.
 
Your right knife w/ 2 spacers in the guard & pommel remained thru 1980. In 1981 a spacer was dropped in the guard. Although there has been some evidence this change could have taken place in 1980. A nice photo. DM

That little radius on the guard I've noted later. Because I have a 119 that has one spacer and a straight guard and is a 1980 model. It could have been mfg. in early 1981. DM
