Wondering when US production of the stockmen and other pocketknives was discontinued? Is there an easy way to distinguish from pictures, other than checking for the obvious ("China" on the blade)?

The 370s and 380s are made in China and have wood scales.:thumbdn: The 301-309 are still US made and have black handles.

The import pocket knives were added when a major opportunity opened up at a specific price point with Wal-Mart when Schrade went out of business.

I only buy American Bucks, but the imports I've looked at look pretty good. Hope I dont have a bunch of Buck nuts hunting me down for saying that.;)

I bought a 3 blade stockman from wallyworld with the wood handles and its ok,not bad at all for what i paid the quality is there, its got to be a decent knife if its got a lifetime warranty,so far its not the sharpest knife i've got but it will sharpen up good and actually stays sharp for awhile.I don't blame the company ,as much as i would blame walmart.lol

After Wal-Mart, how many other retail stores carry them now?
(Specifically the 300 series imports)

I've seen them in:

Gander Mountain
K-Mart
Sports Authority
Bass Pro Shops

I think any Buck dealer. I sold them at my last job. Just a small family business.

Thanks all! I recently picked up a trapper for $5, so that was definitely a good price point! I'm glad that there's still US production, though.

Semi-related question. I assume the blades used to be 440 and are now 420? Is there an easy way to spot the transition from online pictures?

Not on the knife, if you can see the packaging it will say if it's 420HC, but it's not marked on the knives themselves.
