Just getting into collecting the Victorinox knifes and made the mistake of buying a collectors book published in 1999. Anyway they make a pretty big fuss over this model and how it is issued to NASA shuttle crews. I start to look for one to find not only are they not in production, but hasnt been in some time.(still want one)

The pliers were added in 1986,changing the Master Craftsman into a Craftsman for some reason, the same time the Champion became the Swisschamp.A Master Craftsman may be hard to find.

Just the one I would like to find :) And thankyou acswan for filling in the history for me.

Another way to date Victorinox models, is to look for other differences; as seen in these two Space Shuttle models:

The hole in the awl was introduced sometime around the early 1990's, and the parcel hook was introduced around the same time. Also a difference in the above pictures, is that the earlier T-handled screwdrivers had a slit in them for opening tin cans (although you can't see it above).

Other dating methods using features as a possible timeline; are the pin and pen introduction, a channel that the scissors spring uses, whether the scissors uses a rivet or a screw for the pivot, the small backside flat screwdriver, flutes in the corkscrew and crimpers on the pliers. Just to name a few... :D

Welcome to the madness
