By doing a search here, I found the earliest reference of it mentioned in '08. I am asking because I have had my eye (and, regardless, will most probably buy) on a Viper Carnera and that knife could be the bigger twin of the Rold. Only difference would be a more pronounced drop at mid handle, more flare at the pommel and of course a bigger size (6" blade for the Rold, 9.5" for the Carnera), but even the front of the scales look the same, blade profile and same D2 steel. The Rold is a Jesper Voxnaes design while the Carnera was designed by T. Rumici. Anybody has any more details?

Nope. Other than i do have a D2 Rold w/black coating. GREAT knife, VERY light, fast in hand, VERY ergonomic for my hand. Love the chiol. One swipe on each side on my butchers steel had it razor sharp. Also have his BOB Elegance. Another awesome blade.

I agree, I have the bead blased rold and it was one of the sharpest knives I have ever received out of the box. I am gonna go ahead and get the Carnera and post side by side pics later. I'm just wondering about the design.

I remember seeing a Vox custom that looked like the Rold (maybe it had the same name) a while back. Vox Knives hasn't updated their website in a few years. How old is the Carnera design?

don't know, but it seems like it came out last year.

The Carnera looks really awesome, would love to have a "big brother" of my Rold.
The D2 seems to hold up well to chopping, too from what I've seen on the tube.
I really don't need a 200€ 9,5" blade, but damn I want one

A local chain happened to have one on display yesterday, which is highly unusual. Anyhow, it was my first hands-on with one, and I like it. It had a tumbled, or stone-washed finish which looked very tasteful. I was most impressed there were no hot-spots for me on the handle. Not just rectangle-like slabs attached to the tang, they were tastefully devoid of anything approaching a corner, or an edge. Choil seemed very workable, also. I didn' t care for the fact there was no separate thong-hole, but having the thong through the back rivet I could learn to live with. The cross jimping for one's thumb was about the only thing that seemed short-changed at all. Much to coarse on the naked thumb. But, perhaps in using it with gloves is where it shines, with room to allow the material to squich down in those grooves.

thanks for the input. This knife is still on my wishlist, although info still seems to be scarce.

The Rold is my favorite outdoor/camp knife. Though I have more love for some of my other knives, the Rold is the best allrounder which outperformes them all. For me that is best knife Böker ever made.
