When did Victorinox start adding the straight pin hole?

???

Any ideas, I recently acquired a Vic knife I did not think was very old but the lack of a pin hole and the shape of the can opener are leading me to believe it's older than I thought.

It's the Huntsman, pics in my other thread. According to the wiki based on the can opener it's a late 70's to early 80's.

Was just surprised, I thought the pin hole was standard for a long time. I ordered a replacement straight pin and mini screwdriver only to find this one had no hole for the straight pin.

It's a handy feature to have, might be worth a replacement scale.

According to the SAK A Collector's Companion book, the straight pin was added in 1991. Some models like the Sparten which I have has the pin hole in the scales where the corkscrew is. If this helps. Gary

According to SAKWiki.com

Victorinox introduced ))Plus-Scales(( on some 91mm knife models in 1993(Date needs verification). These scales have a slots for toothpick, tweezers, and a ballpoint pen; sometime later a small hole was added for a ))Straight-Pin((. The pin can be very useful for removing slivers (splinters), or activating small electronic switches typically used for resetting, or setting electronic devices. The ))Straight-Pin(( is made from stainless steel.

After the pin-storage-hole was known on the ))Plus-Scales((, the storage slot started to appear on standard Cellidor scales. Many standard models now contain a hole to carry the ))Straight-Pin(( even if the actual pin is not supplied with the knife when purchased new.

Information from Victorinox dated 2010.02.08 indicates that the straight-pin was first introduced in 1991. This information may contradict the 1993 introduction of the ))Plus-Scales((, or it might mean the straight-pin did in fact precede the introduction of the new scales featuring the ballpoint pen.

Swiss Bianco sells red, white, black and yellow 91 mm Plus-Scales; the pens and stainless steel pins are easy to find online.

My Waiter, which I bought about eight years ago, has the pin hole, although it didn't come with a pin, so it seems the 84mm models also have this feature.

What pin hole?
