when did western stop stamping on the brass guard?

I bought my first W49 in the 60's and it didn't have marking on the brass. I don't have the first one but I do have a "K" I bought on EBay.

A little while ago I bought an 1980 and an 1986 Western catalog on EBay with an extra book on the making of Western knives that was printed in 1975. I will be scanning the books and would like to offer a CD with the scanned books for the Western knife folks. The history is hard to find and the catalogs and book are a treasure of information.

Before I offer the CD I need to find out if it is okay.

I have 7 westerns. one of them is broken in half and thats a "A". the one I have on my belt right now is an "E". I have 2 that just say Western Bowie USA, and those ones have smaller pins in the handle than the others, I believe those are the ones from the 60's. then I have one that is mint, which is an "I". I also have one that has on the guard western usa, and on the other side w49. And then I have one of the new ones made from stainless steel :thumbdn:

Western started using "A" in 1977. Jimbowie your "E" was made in 1981. 1987 for the "K" that you have deltablade. My W49 is also a "K" and I believe it is a high carbon blade.

The offer for the two scanned catalogs and the 1975 booklet is still on. For free I will send cd with the three for free. I just need your snall mail address sent to me at doobeau@hotmail.com.
