Hey guys, just wondering when you cleaned your sebenza or other CR folder last? I just finished cleaning up my sebenza. This is the first time I have cleaned it in maybe 3 or 4 months. Just the other day is started to get a little rough opening so I knew it was time :)

I have one of the newer sebs with the perforated washers, and I must say I am impressed with how long they hold grease. So simple, yet effective :thumbup:.

My seb is good as new if you subtract all the user marks :p. It sure is relaxing to clean up my favorite blade:)

Have a great day guys, and take care of your knives :)

I don't have a new sebenza with the new washers, but I am planning on it.

I do clean my work sebenza about every two months to just get the debris out and take it apart and relube then.

I dont go so much by the amount of time, but how it feels when opening & closing. When they get tight or rough ( you can feel it draging ), I know its time for a cleaning. I try to avoid submerging it in water for cleaning as that speeds up the cleaning process quite a bit because the greese seems to wash away easily. My sebenzas all have the older bronze washers, so I think they are more prone to the grease washing away a little quicker. I only had my zaan apart once. I got it in a trade and took it apart and did a thorough cleaning and that was in November, so its been going strong for like 5 months now. I like the perforated washers on the zaan, definately a Great Idea by CRK.

Every few months i put it in my pants pocket and run it through the wash and let it drip dry...few drops of wesson oil and good to go.

I wonder if one could order the perforated washers from Chris and put them in one of the older Sebenzas? Has anyone done this? I'm curious sine I would like to do this to my Classic Seb.

I doubt it, CRK will not send out parts, its just their policy. You would have to send it in and have them "fitted"........I wish they would, many people on here have multiple sebbies and if they choose to add the perforated washers, you hate to have to pay to send them all in for this. I always heard they were "fitted" though, so if this is indeed the case, they would need to be sent in. CRK knows more about the tolerances than I do :)

Oh well, it was a good idea though. If I call them in the next little bit to order anything I will try and remember to ask them about the washers.

I called and asked about it. Heather said you have to send in the knife and they will install the newer washers. I forgot to ask about the price though.

Same as nyefmaker for me. I clean it when it loose that buttery smooth feel. Probably every couple of months or so.

don't have to do that much cleaning with my kind of use.
I'll clean it after I've been out in the woods for a weekend.
Did that 2 weeks ago for my 'zaan after having used it in rain and mud and cleaned one of my sebenzas last week for the first time because I noticed it was opening less smooth, put on some fluorinated crk grease and it's good to go again.

Of course, when there is lots of yuck in there, I clean it if it doesn't go away with a good water rinsing session.

I cant remember when last I cleaned my Sebenza. 6 months or so...maybe longer. I use it a lot. gets dirty and I clean it with warm soap water. Dry and ad one drop of fine machine oil usually used for sewing machines. Action is smooth and I therefore do not have to take it apart to clean as the oil does not attract a lot of dirt.

It's been almost a year since I last cleaned my Sebenza. I have blown it out with canned air. The knife can go a long time without cleaning. When I first got it I cleaned it every month. Can't remember what size hex tool. Lost the original.

Ive bought or traded a couple of used lg. sebs from the fs/trade forums. The 1st

thing I did with them was to clean and lub them.

I could have Saved A Lot Of Time if I had use bigmarks method and run

them thur the washer and put a couple of drops of wesson oil on them

:D:D

Mark I got a good laugh about your time saving method ;)

I have done this with my users for years.

Seriously, my better half has washed more than one knife for me. :D

usually every 3 or 4 months they need to be taken down and cleaned YMMV but i notice that the tollerances start to vary when they get too much crap built up in em and the dont lock up as good. after a complete cleaning and reassembly they are as good as new..also i just spoke to heather at crk and the knives must be sent in to have perforated washers installed as the are a "fitted part" i was told...its gonna be hard to send both my sebs in at the same as i carry one every day but it will be worth it when they come back from the spa all double lugged and re finished with those silky smooth perforated washers :D

I wipe mine down daily. and do the full bore disassembly cleaning only when the action gets a little sluggish.

Are the perforated washers made out of bearing (sintered) bronze or teflon?
