When did ZT go to CPM20cv?

Got a hella deal on a new 0562 CF this past weekend. Figured it was S35vn...Nope, CPM20cv. cuts like a laser.

When did ZT go to that steel? Or is it a short run?

I'm pretty sure the 0562 CF was first made in CTS204P, then switched to CPM20CV at some point. The regular 0562 with the G10 handle scale was first made in S35VN and now has an Elmax blade.
The whole ZT 2018 lineup has CPM20CV blades, and I believe they said that going forward, all their future models will CPM20CV blades as well.

On the 0562CF ZT transitioned from CTS 204P to CPM 20CV during 2017. And a few years back these were originally done in M390, which was then changed to 204P. All three steels are not realistically distinguishable in terms of performance.

Silent H Silent H is mistaken above. On the G10 0562s, they were originally done in Elmax, but are now in S35VN.

All their new models for 2017 are in CPM20CV, but they have not indicated that all previous models will be now changed to CPM20CV. I would not expect that.

Thanks for the correction halden.doerge halden.doerge . I doubt they'll switch all the current models to CPM20CV as well, but I wouldn't be surprised if their entire lineup is CPM20CV within the next few years, as they retire older knives and come out with new models.

The 0562 cf was originally in m390 after the first run they had a hard time sourcing it so they went to 204p and finally 20cv I'm not sure if it still is but the g10 version was elmax maybe it's something else these days

Several people expressed disappointment when they ordered the knife in m390 and it arrived in CTs -204p or cpm 20cv. I think the impression is that m390 is superior because it’s the original. I’ve never found any information that distinguishes the 3 steels in any way whatsoever.

Yeah I don't really think there is a noticeable difference between them all great steels I've heard some argue that m390 is easier to sharpen but I don't really find that to be the case

they said at shot show if you watched anything about it on YouTube they said they are switching mostly everything to 20cv

They said their 2018 line was all going to be in 20CV. Not pre-existing models.

I think ZT is spot on for their 2018 steel choice. CPM-20v is a fantastic knife steel for EDC I not sure there’s a steel I like any better overall other than a maybe a tie with M390 also fantastic.

Other knife manufacturers just keep throwing out old news like 30v and 154cm which are also good steels no doubt, but it is 2018 and a $200++ Knife needs one of the best steels available right now.

100%, either make something relatively easy to maintain like 20cv or cruwear, or if they’ve got the skills, s110v, maxamet or 3,4v is essential to parting me with whatever credit line I’ve got left!

Agreed. This is what got me paying attention to ZT. I refuse to pay $200 for a folder with s30v.
