When good knives attack...

Thought I would include you all in my latest boo-boo. A series of bad choices involving cold weather, kindling making for a fire, not much light, and ignoring my brain telling me that I was about to cut myself, and wha-la a nice deep painful cut. I have been collecting, carrying, and using a knife for 24 years. I have cut myself bad enough for stitches only 3 times. That is an average of 1 bad cut every 8 years. The problem is that the last 2 have been within a year of each other. The second bad cut was a freak accident, but this one was shame on me. Total of 10 stitches, but the doc should have added at least 3 more on the part that wraps around and under the bend of my first knuckle. You can't see that part in the pic. I am very grateful to my bone for stopping the blade from doing any further damage. No cut tendons or nerves. Bled like a stuck pig though! Top of my finger is very numb still, as the cut is about a week old now. Looks to be healing alright. Told my wife that I was trying to rekindle that spark in our marriage since chicks dig scars.
For those that are curious, I cut it with a custom fixed blade, D2, very sharp! Didn't even feel it when it happened. Feel it now though!

Ouch. Man that one is a good one.

I wish I could laugh at you and claim I have never cut myself while making a stupid mistake. I could technically but I would be lying.

I have so many scars on my hands. Cuts happen.

did the same cut in 1990 was filleting bass drunk. knocking them on head 1st to stun them, knife bounced & mirrowed your cut . only thing we had was masking tape. felt like a dummy when i sobered up next morning.

Ouch! x 2. Take care of yourself there Bolt! Glad the injuries weren't worse. I've cut myself a few times with knifes but fortunately never anything serious enough to require stitches.

Oh, BTW, it's "voilà" (French for "there you are"), not "wha-la"!. :-)
Sorry, not picking on you, I've just seen it misspelt too times!

Only got myself bad enough for stitches once, but that was enough. I needed eight.

Worst thing is, it was right on the side of my right thumb, running aways into the pad. Right where it would ride on the safety/slide-release of my favorite handguns, and right where my thumb touches the spine of a folder blade during the closing motion. It's supposed to be tender for a year, maybe more, so a few of my favorite activities have been screwed-up for awhile.

Watch your hands out there, folks...

Looks a little swolen around the cut. I cut my finger to the bone on a sharp piece of wire on a fence at work back in June, same finger but further up, it took eight stitches. It was numb past the cut for months, It still feels funny, so it is going to feel numb for a while. Even though you didn't sever any tendons, there are still nerves through there and whenever you cut that deep, you're bound to cut a few of those and they heal slower than bones. Plus, it's going to be really sensative behind the cut for a while. Hope yours heals faster than mine did though, deep cuts suck.
