It's in Atlanta, right? (Can you see I'm a newbie?)

What are the other big shows, for true custom stuff?

May 31st (Friday), June 1st (Sat) and June 2nd (Sun). Warning I am there from Thursday on from before opening to after closing and 3 days is not enough for me to see it all and talk to all.
If I can help with anything let me know.

May 31-Jun2
Cobb Galeria Center/ Renaissance (sp) Waverly Hotel

If you are interested, keep your eyes open about a month before the show starts and you can score a couple of VIP passes. Lets you in for free, and you get in at noon on Friday instead of 2pm.

Lots of hotels in the area,so you dont have to stay in the Waverly...myself,Im staying at some bastid's goat ranch.

...and as Gus K said, The few days that the show is going on is NOT enough time to do everything, meet everyone, and see everything.

Click here, here and here for a few links pertaining to the show.
Also try doing a search, there is a TON of info on this site about the show...I get excited going back and reading the threads, but nothing compares to going to the show itself!

How far away is Cobb Arena from the airport? And what are some of the hotels/motels the nife nuts stay at?;)
Birds of the feather flock to________, right?
Hope to be there this year!

Hi Barry. I am guessing that it is between 19 and 24 miles to the airport. There are several motels within walking distance and some have shuttles to the airport. The Sheraton right beside the complex is a popular spot. (Cobb Parkway across from the Galleria Center).

I am planning on staying at the Waverly. How far in "advance" should I book?

Also, I do not want to haul my new knives home in my luggage. Does the waverly help with UPS and USPS packaging and shipping?
Thanks.........Ira

Ira-BOOK NOW!
The hotel will probably be full that weekend if you dont do it now.
As far as shipping goes,I cant answer that one.
I have been thinking of flying there knifeless, and shipping my purchases back home at the end of the week. Just me and a carry on.

Ira send them to Gus.
His house looks like a full fledged knife shop befor the show anyway.
He opens nothing and delivers them to the show for you and he will send stuff to you after the show. He does so much of this he does not do the packaging (Just so he does not run into problems). You pack and seal, he will ship from and deliver to the show.

I hear he is dumb enough to do that for people.
:D

I trust Gus and have no reservations about doing that. The only knife I am bringing is my EDC. It is what I have saved up for a year to bring home that will probably end up at Gus's house to get shipped home. I just cannot picture sticking what is going to be the most money I have ever spent on knives in my life into a suitcase and trusting an airline to have them ALL all arrive still inside that suitcase.

Also, what's the weather like this time of the year, and the "accepted" attire? I sure am not planning on packing a Tux, but I also don't wanna be walking around at night with F-em all let God sort em out tee shirts

Sorry, but this is my first REAL knife show...................Ira

Weather is balmy.

Friday afternoon you will need a business suit with tie or ascot for tea. Friday tea time, often confused with Happy Hour, is a serious and sometimes intimate affair here in Atlanta. That evening is of course strictly white tie (not the knit variety, thank you very much). Those entering in sandals will be asked to leave.

On Saturday, informal attire is recommended, so a sport coat and tie is completely appropriate. The pool party for Dexter is Saturday evening, after the Knifemakers' Ball. Togs and a robe are suitable, dark terry with your family crest - embroidered not stamped - is suggested. Bathing suit is strictly optional.

On Sunday, we usually collect at the tent out back for the Revival. (That's where we will attempt to revive Tom Mayo and Duane Dwyer, and maybe Dexter if he can be found in time.) Suitable Sunday-go-to-meeting garb is appropriate for that. Following Bloody Mary's we recommend you head for the tables for that last minute shopping spree. By this time you will have hocked most of your better clothing, so just wear whatever's left. Try to save your higher quality wrist watches and firearms for those final moments of serious, down and dirty bartering. (And please remember to unload. We'd like to avoid a repeat of that rather unpleasant incident last year when Mayo dropped the Walther and shot his little toe off.)

For those leaving by air, we suggest you just leave what's left with your favorite knifemaker at the show. It makes passing through airport security so much faster. Those driving are encouraged to drop off any remaining items at my house. If sufficiently valuable, the photos and negatives should arrive in about 6 weeks, freight collect of course.

Thank you for visiting, and have a nice day... :)

Well, I just got in. There must be quite a few canceling this year.

They got me on the last row. I won't have to walk as far to go smoke.:D

with eye-holes is out, HUH?:p :p

Thanks Jerry, I think I am just gonna wear some jeans with pockets full of cash and lots of credit cards.

Do I have to unload all dem guns I plan on trading Tom:eek:

And what is a "white tie"? Anything like a "My-Tie"?
