When it rains...

The contractors go pay bills, pick up supplies and... occasionally find a new knife. It was raining today and I picked this one up at a pawn shop next door to the electric company for under $10. It has seen some use, but isn't worn out. It is a True Value MM897 Stainless. As you can see, other than the stamp and the text on the UH shield, it is a stock 897UH.

Here is a thread where we discussed the Cotter True Value knives a while back.

Nice find. I make the rounds to all the pawn shops here about once a month or so. Lately though, the ones around here are asking nearly retail prices for stuff and they won't budge on the price.

you guys are lucky. here in B.C. you almost NEVER see a knife (other than kitchen cutlery) in flea markets, garage sales, pawn shops, even hardware stores often don't carry any knives except like linoleum cutters, etc. how have Canadians lived so long without knives ? where did their old knives go ?
it's a mystery to me.

For over a month my MM897 sat here with no box or papers. Last week I nabbed the correct box from eBay. It arrived this week, pristine and in it's white sleeve. I thought I was happy until I opened the box. The original sales reciept! $22.95 from Erdel's True Value dated 9/8/90.

I haven't had any luck in pawn shops, although I did recently spot a BB125 (Buffalo Bill) at a local antique store.Everything looked OK until I opened it and found that someone had buffed the etch right off it! To me that was a deal breaker, especially when they still wanted nearly a hundred bucks for it. They also had a NIB 51OT that I couldn't leave without:D

Nice find Michael!

I found a 72OT in the brown wood grain box about a week ago. The knife was used, but the blades are about 98%. It may even have the factory edge on it, but is dull.
Cost was $10.
