It seems we have strayed a bit in the past couple of weeks and we need to get back on track.

Please do not attack any individual who is on or off my/your forum.

You are welcome to post opinions and the like. Make certain that when you do they are not directed at any individual. Take Lynn Thompson for example. It would be best to say that you do not aggree with the marketing methods of Cold Steel than to say that you do not like Lynn Thompson's attitude.

We can read between the lines

It is especially sad to see it between knife makers. You do not have to like each other but in here we should be able to get along. I understand that in many cases another knife maker is viewed as your competitor.

Also keep the "I am Right, You are wrong" or the "my way is right, and your way is wrong" attitude out of here. Just respect that their way is different.

I screw up too and post my feelings sometimes and I understand how hard it is to swallow pride. Let's just try to keep this place's overall friendly atmosphere intact.

Thanks!

I kinda noticed that grudge matches frequently involve custom makers, and heated threads these past few weeks...

I missed the good 'ol days when everybody likes everybody, and everybody's contributing something useful, and beneficial for forumites, not just "Who's the Best of the Best"...

Oh well...

Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of More Knives

I hate to admit it but I'm drawn to a locked thread like a moth to a flame, just to see what I've missed.

When I first discovered this whole knife community and went to my first knife show I couldn't get over what nice people everybody was. They were so friendly not only to me but to each other, and never was heard a discouraging word. It seemed unreal, too good to be true. I guess it is. We're all human, with our own talents and short commings, opinions and beleifs, and EGOS. I like someone that speaks their mind, even if I don't agree. I also like people that have an open mind and will at least listen to an opposing view. I mean who here knows everthing and is always right?

I think what we all need to remember is that we are all guests at someone else's house, and all he askes is that we act like an ADULT!

Seems like a reasonable request.

"Will work 4 Knives!"

I think you'll find that for the most part knifemakers are a pretty friendly and gregarious group. It comes from working alone in a dark, dirty shop. (That's a reflection on my housekeeping only and is not intended for mature audiences.) Until here, I don't think I've ever seen two knifemakers argue. They disagree at times, but it's usually in the context of "we think differently" and not "I'm right, you're wrong."

It is very unusual for knifemakers (at least those I've known) to personalize their opinions. We all do the best we can with what we have. Some are better than others. There's a market there for everybody. We mostly have fun doing what we do, and help each other as a matter of pride.

My thoughts anyway...

Everyone is entitled to their opinion and we all know what opinions are like. However, we should insure that our words come across as opinion and not personal attacks.

Over the years my wife and I have noticed the "February Effect". Somehow we get antsy this time of year and stresses are elevated. We get agitated and start looking for change. Quite often this is when we decide to move. Other times we've ended up in major fights. I think it's biorythms. Even knife guys got biorythms.

Maybe it would help to add photos to that little information box on the side of your post; I've always thought that the majority of the mudslinging wouldn't happen if we were sitting face to face.

Jeff,

Just noticed your reply. I think the Feb. effect has something to do with Apr. 15.

We should all try to remember that everyone is entitled to express his or her opinion, even if it's wrong.

BTW, if it does reach the point of custom makers dueling to the death, my money is on Jerry Hossom. That Millenium Bowie is truly wicked...

Jeff and Ryan, I think you're both partly right, but my wife calls it "cabin fever", as many of us forumites don't have the pleasure of living in T-shirts and shorts climates year round. I know Isure start getting cranky in mid-late Feb into early March.

My wife also has a theory that it's because some of the auto racing seasons begin in late February or March, and I'm cranky without a regular "fix". Winter can be hard on an auto racing fan...

Maybe Jerry Springer will have a show for "Fueding Knife Experts!"

I hope everyone will...(pardon the expression)... "bury the hatchet", and start over.

Thanx for bringing this up, it was something that really needed to be restated for all the new people....

to all,

i dont mean to attack anyone here. i just get tired of seeing the same things happen over and over again. first they whine, then everyone tells them how wonderful they are, then we start all over again.

i have nothing against any maker out there! i will share info about anything i know, which probly isnt much compared to many. butt please! lets stop the endless whining about everybody else does this and that! serve up some cheese with all that whine and lets have a party

i am looked on as the bad guy on the forums but you gotta admit, stirring the pot sure gets better responses
biggrin.gif
people take things too seriously around here. when i first arrived here at the forums, i was attacked by a "moderator" that i never even heard of! so i kind of started off on the defensive here. no excuse but.....

to Marion David Poff:

if you dont like my posts or my opinions...simply dont read them

Ryan, I think the pic idea is a great one. You're right, it is helpful to see a face.

Well, I for one hope the arguments keep on coming. I have learned alot more on the threads that get heated up than I have on almost all of the other combined. Not only that but I get a good laugh at some of the posts people make wile they have a good mad on.
