I'm a Bladeforum member. When my knife is as sharp as a surgeons scalpel ....

How would you finish this sentence? :) :)

...I need to keep sharpening because scalpels really aren't as sharp as people think. Plus, they have awful edge retention

... the edge needs to be touched up?

This is the response I figured I'd get here. :)

My wife is an OR nurse & I asked her about scalpels. She told one of the surgeons that since I got an Edge Pro, her kitchen knives were sharper than his scalpels. Of course we had to prove it, so I sent one of my EDC knives with her to work. He sent back his pocket knife for me to sharpen & asked my wife about his kitchen knives. :) I think he also realized the poor quality of blade he worked with.

My wife also brought home a few new-in-the-wrapper blades & it's disappointing the poor quality of the blades that surgeons have to work with. I doubt that any of us here would buy a knife with a low quality blade that they are cutting up our insides with. I realize it's a cheap single use blade, but it's a really important single use when they are using it on me.

Thanks for reading my rant. Rant off,
Allen

Learning to sharpen my own knives kind of burst a lot of bubbles for me. I used to think the best a knife could get was "factory sharp", now almost every blade I see disappoints me.
