Here is a chance to tell the story when your spyderco keep you out of harms way. For me it was when I was learning team roping about 10 years ago and I got into a situation where the steer that was roped had managed to circle my horses legs with the rope. I was able to get of my horse and with one pass from my spyderco pro grip I cut my rope and saved my horse from a wreck. Many ropers still carry only spydercos today. Thanks for the sharp serrated edge and clip way of carry.

Thats awesome. Those serrated spyder edges are super sharp and can cut rope really good.

Which model was it?

My wife's moose was down in January in the NWT. My dressing bag was a casualty of hurried packing and not available(turns out it was under the tarp and I had brought it). The factory edge on my new ( non spyderco)belt knife dulled almost immediately. It was tough going. I pressed a Spyderco Stretch into service. VG10 sliced like a bugger. I was away to the races. A friend showed up with a kit bag of knives and things got even better, but I stuck with the Stretch. A nice little friend to have in your pocket.

I have a pro=grip too. Nice little outdoor knife.

Several years ago, when my son played football, I was one of the parent volunteers. Most Saturday's, I'd end up doing kitchen duty and grilling. Odd how, in a "kitchen" there's nothing that can really cut. I soon became known as "the guy with the knife". And my fiance even started carrying my CF Dragonfly so she'd have a blade on her too. Can't count the number of times someone asked, "Ron, can I see/borrow your knife?"

Best save was right after we'd started dating, her car busted a radiator hose. No tools in the car, so I used the back edge to loosen the hose clamp, cut off a bit of the hose to get past the break, and clamped it back down. Got some water and got back home.

My wife's young horse decided to jump over a 5 foot fence and got his front legs in the crossbars, flipping him over on his back. I was afraid he would break his neck and cut his lead rope with my brand new Salt 1.

Great stories, thanx much.

FYI, the Pro-Grip was one of the evolutionary steps in the long development of the latest Stretch.

Here is mine:
in 1996 I was training to become a state certified EMT. We were doing our practicals in the Chiricahua mountains. This included learning to do basket rescues, proper use of rappelling gear, etc. I was next to rappel down this cliff, the guy that was alongside me ended up getting his harness and carabiner on in such a way that the circulation was getting cut off on his legs. His weight (he was a little chubby) was cinching the ropes tighter and tigher around his legs. The instructors had to manually lower him quickly.

When we got down his legs were turning a bluish color. I whipped out my trusty Delica and cut the ropes off him at the harness. The guy had some serious red bruises and a couple rope burns, but the color came back within a minute or 2. Coincidentally, that night I lost that Delica in a small creek when we were hiking back to the main camp. My guess is that the integrated clip was stretched out a bit too much.:o

I always carry an Endura or large Grip when trail riding. While I normally carry just a plain Gerber LST as an EDC, I always carry a one-hand folder when I'm around horses or mules. Like you, I've had situations that could have ended very badly had I not had access to a quick-deploying one hand folder.

I honestly dont remember which knife i had this day but i responded to a wreck where a tractor trailer rig had flipped over and the older heavyset driver was barely conscious and suspended by his seat belt which was restricting his breathing.

Only accress was through the rear cab window and i squeezed in and cut him loose and helped support him til fire could could cut the trees and front windshield out to remove him.

I wonder how a serrated blade would do on a windshield? I know a flashlight will just bust a hole. Windshields are super tough.

My Caly 3 saved a friend's wedding. My brother and I were playing all the music for the wedding and he lost the key to his viola case, so I cut the locks off. There wasn't really any danger, but I can't imagine she would've been happy with only half the duet playing all of the songs. We still call that knife the Wedding Saver.
