I've recently acquired a few older Queen knives. In doing so, I've come to realize that they're some of the finest production knives that I've seen. Here's a Muskrat from 1961-1971. During that period they did not add tang stamps, in order to cut back on production cost. I can assure you though, based on my findings, that they did not sacrifice anything in the build quality. Feel free to share pictures of your old Queens, along with your thoughts.

Of the Queens I have all are quite special in one way or another. This barlow for it's covered tang. A real joy to hold.

Very nice example, always liked the Winterbottom Bone and would be wonderful to see some decent grade offered on current production knives.

I don't really see that as a Muskrat though? They generally have two Turkish Clips or if 'Improved' may have a Wharncliffe/Turkish Clip and a Serp frame. That Swell Centre and Clip/Spey is more like a Moose or Surveyor, I believe.

Don't have any older Queen knives but I think you may be right about the quality and desirability. I do have a number of Stag Bone D2 Queens from the early part of this century and find the construction quality to be very impressive. Some of the sharpening and bevelling is not though....

Thanks, Will

Thanks for that info Will! The person that owned it previously, had referred to it as a Muskrat. So I just went with that, not knowing otherwise.

Nice. Another great looking Queen. Queen, in their 1963 catalog, called this a 4 1/4" Serpentine Pattern, heavy duty two blade trapper's knife.
Also, although not stamping the tang did save them money, the original reason was due to cracking of the 440C tangs. They fixed this by annealing the tangs, making them soft enough to be stamped without cracking.

I like Queen and really like their S&M line. I never had much to do with them until my good friend Jack (Mrknife) turned me on to them by gifting one to me, then another and another and more he has given me 5 or 6 S&M knives the guy is generous to a fault and though we've never met outside of BF I consider him a really good friend.
Anyway although I have heard complaints about Queens F and F I have never experienced a problem and really think they are some of best looking knives available. I also really like both their D2 and CPM-154 steel and they have some great handle materials two of my favorites are the Winterbottom Bone and Elk Stag IMO their Wormgrove jigging is absolutely top notch. I know this thread is for older Queen knives but I'm a fan and just wanted to throw in my two cents. I hope I didn't disrupt your thread Fort and won't post pictures because all of mine are newer the last older one I had was a #76 Sodbuster which was made in 1976 but I gave it to my friend Glennbad.

Hey Randy, I appreciate your two cents. It's not a disruption my friend. I'm not knocking their newer knives, at all. In fact, I have a few and they're some of my faves. Let's see your pics, New or old. Don't make me beg! 😜

This thread is dangerous :D
I've got no availabe money, sick father who needs 24 hour care and a hankering for a D2 Queen.
I think all the stress has me focusing on things to distract myself but I'm dragging the thread all sideways... sorry.

Here's a. Pic of my Schatt and Morgan that I picked up in the Mr Knife passaround giveaway. Came from Bob aka Bigbiscuit.
Beautiful chunky knife in my favorite color.
