Though I had an old Firemans Glove on I caught a piece of knife I was heat treating lastnight. Burned through the glove and now I have second degree burns on my right hand. I guess it could have been worse.

Moral of the story. DON"T TOUCH HOT METAL! You thought I would have learned this at an early age. Stupid reflexes.

Upon reading your thread title, I laughed. After opening and reading your message I felt bad for laughing. Burns are no fun. Hope it heals up soon.

Somehow or another I managed to develop the "don't catch it" reflex while learning blacksmithing. Of course, now that I'm playing with sharp things it's the "don't catch that and jump backwards to get my feet clear" reflex. I just tried to keep it in mind whenever I was in a shop. Seems to have worked.

Hope your burns heal up fast!

They should heal up fine in about a week or so. I really have to get out of the habit of drawing blood or buring myself when in the shop. And I need to keep my knuckles away from wirebrushes on my grinder ( completly diffrent story).

I feel your pain. Heal quick....and ya.....The sacrafices we make to the art.

Ive been very lucky to date. One thing that has saved me more than once is the kevlar glove I wear on my left hand. I know this is hindsight but......Hope you heal up soon...Mike

Been there and done that....without the glove:eek: I get more and more careful all the time but seem to learn a lot the hard way. My hands are calloused and scarred but thats just part of working with them. My other tools don't quite look brand new either.
