When Spydercos Feel New and Loved All Over Again

Hey All!

So, I love my small Spydie collection (they're the only folders I own these days) but I work at a job (in a school) where I can't carry a knife, so they've become a weekend/after work thing (which is tragic). However, I'll be changing jobs soon and moving into the distilling business, which will see much more daily use of my knives, which I'm very excited about.

Anyway, I recently decided that it was time to buy a Chris Reeve knife, specifically and Inkosi. I wanted one for my upcoming vacation, and in general to add to the collection. However, it turns out that I owe the IRS 1,200 dollars and, as a result, the Inkosi will continue to be an ongoing fantasy.

However, this had me sitting at my desk last night going through my spydies and deciding which ones to travel with. After spending some much needed time with them, I settled on taking my Slysz Bowie and Native 5 G10. And I have to say...I love these knives. I love them so, so much. Picking them up, carrying and using them brings me genuine joy. Regardless of when I'll purchase a Chris Reeve knife, I remain grateful for this brand and the beautiful knives that I have. I'm actually glad to have had the occasion to re-familiarize myself with these beauties, and they will of course make great travel companions (along with a couple copper flashlights).

Has anyone else had any Spyderco knife renaissances like this? Picked something up and fallen in love all over again? I'd love to hear about it!

Oh, and I'll post pics at some point too!

Yes. The Para Military. In D2.
I always come back to this folder. Overall, it is my favorite folder.

I have. I set aside my Spydies for almost two years. I was carrying a pair of Sebenzas for that entire time. Recently, around Christmas time, I purchased a couple of s110v Spydercos and a hap40. I realize all over again why I love this brand. They are designed from the edge out and the refined ergos are simply the best. When I'm honest with myself, my PM2 and Manix blow the CRKs away.

Absolutely!!! Just fell back in love with a 3 year old paramilitary. Hey Vermontedge where about in VT are you? I'm in Windsor County near Okemo Mtn...

Btw.... If I could only pick a sebenza or delica to carry till the day I die...... It would be the Delica!!!! : )

So Lance which is it now that you have both. Delica40 or Stretch 40?

I have to admit I have taken a liking to the FRN on the Stretch Hap40 where before I thought it was cheap looking and much preferred G10. I could see when having weekends at the lake or fishing that FRN would be outright preferred by a longshot.

Vermont....that Slyz Bowie is amazing. If only they would drop the price some =)

^ TeX u gotta send me some pics of your Caly 3 once its get a patina. Mine should be here in a couple days : )

I'm in Costa Rica so I'm still waiting on delivery of my Stretch. It's hard to imagine it winning out over the Delica though...we shall see.

Edit: Actually, I decided to call and check and it's in the country and ready for pickup tomorrow!:D:thumbup:

For the parts of a knife that actually matter such as the edge, steel, cutting ability, and ergonomics, Spyderco wins in a blowout. Like Super Bowl 48 blowout.
Yep, and its really not even a close contest.
Agreed.

Haha, thanks man. Yeah I snagged mine off of the exchange, which was the only realistic way that I could afford it. It really is a thing of beauty.

Caly 3, I used it for a valentine's day project and it struck me again what a great knife it really is.

You know, I happen to be carrying a Slycz Bowie and a Large Seb today. The Slycz is in the place of honor in the front right pocket.

I started out collecting and using Spydercos. After a while, my taste changed, and I got caught up in more expensive knives. I thought my Spyderco Days were over. In the last several months, I started seeing that Spyderco was making some unusual, sophisticated, collaborative knives. I've gone full circle and have fallen back in love with Spyderco. My most recent purchase is an Ed Schempp Tuff
