I hang my head. I am suppose to be a photo guy and I didn't take a before photo. I just never thought of it.......I found this knife in a box of 'stuff' from cleaning up guest room, to make it more gen-teel. Was bad rusty and pen blade wouldn't open till I soaked it in mineral oil for a couple of days. With vise grips it opened. Blades were still usable and I thought what the heck.
OK, lets stop here, anyone having a rusty knife seek information on how to deal with it, take what I did as only a wild-A.. spur of the moment method that could have ruined knife. With the knife still actually useable I should have been more careful.
I thought what the heck I will try cleaning it up some more. I had some CLR sitting by my shop sink, so I pour some in a plastic coffee can and threw in the knife. 48 hours later, I washed it off and it was a black mess. Many - hot soapy water, WD-40,Mothers-cleanings later, black hands for a afternoon, a guick dremel brush polishing and here is what I got. I knew enough to stop at this level or the karma of the knife just would not be right.
Now being a Buck guy someone may say maybe he will trade.....well made later, this could be a grandfather knife, I will take it to family reunion this summer and see if anyone remembers seeing it. Sure wish that pin wasn't cracked and the shield wasn't gone. So here you go, my new (to me) Schrade Walden 835Y - Security.......wish you could have seen it before.
