For cryin' out loud. Anyone know if they've made some 1/4" thick silver G10 yet ? I have been waiting almost a year now. You'ld think with it's rising popularity, they'd make it snappy and put this stuff out in thicker sheets so that those of us who like thick handles can get to usin' it already. I really like the looks of this stuff, especially bead blasted but I'm not a 1/8" thick kinda guy, unless I am making a 1/8" thick knife which I rarely do. Well, if ya know where can get some, please turn me on to it. Thanks guys.....RDT

My scales are usually around .100 thick so the stuff out works for me right now. The piece I just got is like .145 thick. If you cut out 2 pieces you can sand them down and when I do this for the fixed blades I expoy 2 pieces together and leave them clamped in the vise over nite. That would give you .290. You would just have to trim a little down.

Jim,
Thanks !, that makes sense but I have been hearing that whoever makes this stuff is gonna have thicker sheets real soon for a year now and sytill nothing. I do so much texturing with the handles that I would be afraid to ruin the epoxy job as I dimple and grind out deep chunks of the scales sometimes to keep em' "grippy" But heck, I might as well give it a try. Thanks again.Peace.....RDT

I was talking with Trace Rinaldi at the Blade Show and he had some scales that was silver G-10 epoxied to blue G-10 and another set that was silver G-10 epoxied to carbon fiber. They looked really nice.

Using the different materials/colrs would make for a very interesting piece(not surprising coming from Trace), and would probably solve your problem too RDT, if you were careful.

I wonder about doing handle half and half, with two different colors, nad doing a mitered joint(just simple 45 deg angle or something) to join the two. I think you could get a realy interesting effect like that.

Trace had a Damascus neck knife with him at Blade. It had the silver G10 layered on top of black G10. It was a very cool contrast!

Okay, you've all conviced me. I am gonna try it. It's funny because I use Titanium scales on some of my kerambit but they are only 1/8" thick so in order to thicken the handle I was considering adding some colored G10 under the Ti scales as liners, I guess this might be a similar effect but with the texturing of the two different G10's it would probably blend really nicely and make for a more interesting and pretty handle. Good ideas fellas, thanks !.....RDT

The glue-em-together idea is a good one. I do that with scarp G-10 and Micarta. If you sand the panels well with 240grit, you can even just superglue them together provided you clamp them firmly and evenly - they look like the same one piece. I've done the drill jigging job and you can't actually see where its gone through to the second piece; the joint is pretty darn invisible. It works better than you think.

Personally, I just want to know where I can get silver G10 in the first place !!
Jason.

Jason,
You can now get it at Sheffield knife supply and at Masecraft I also think Koval is carrying it now as well. Good luck....RDT

To get the best effect using the thin Silver G-10, I decided to stack it with Blue G-10, and Carbon Fiber.. I think it looked pretty cool, so did a few other people;) The trick though is to HIGHLY contour the handles to bring it out... When you do it that way it almost looks like an inlay..
I wish they would make the Silver G-10 thicker too, but since they havent yet, I decided to make it work for me.. Thanks to those that mentioned it, glad you liked the way it looked...:)
