Hi Guys,
A little over a month ago, I picked up a NOS 885UH on eBay and haven't received it to date. Beside being bummed, I'm wondering how I deal with this... The seller seems like a straight shooter, claims he dropped it in the mail on the 15th of May, and is sending me some form of confirmation of that fact. But, that doesn't get me the knife I just dropped $30 to add to my collection. Any of you guys been through this kind of thing? Any suggestions?
Best Regards,
Kevin

Rotten luck. I only had one non-insured item not make it to me; the seller made it right with me. I've had three sales that went missing in the mails. Insured or not, I made certain the buyers didn't lose a penny.

If the seller doesn't make it right, and the package was not insured, I'd recommend that you give him a positive or neutral feedback, but make a note that the item was lost in the mails. Give other buyers a chance to see if there is a pattern there.

Good luck
Phil

I always pay for insurance, and delivery confirmation. Never lost a knife. We'll never completely eliminate dishonesty in our fellow beings, so a little deterrence goes a long way.
Sorry about your knife though! I can't imagine how someone can enjoy stolen property!? I say stolen, because how likely is it that it fell somewhere un-noticed??

Thanks guys. This seller did not offer to make it good - or even split the loss. I feel funny about asking for a refund. I'm not sure he sent it to the correct address - still no confirmation on that one! But I have bought over 50 Schrade knives through eBay and never had a delivery problem...

This is the first non-delivery from a seemingly good seller. This stinks and it's sucking the fun out of collecting...

I used to buy insurance until I realized it added substantially to the cost of the knife. I put my knives in a spreadsheet and include shipping in the price as it is really what the knife cost me.

When I get a good deal the insurance price really adds to the price. Unless I really need the knife and it is fairly rare or above $25 I usually don't buy the insurance. I figure I come out money ahead in the long run.

I know this probably doesn't make you feel better, but it is the way I look at the whole insurance issue. :o

Just my $.02,
Dale

As a seller,I ship nothing without delivery confirmation. There are some buyers who try to scam the seller.
I also retain my USPS receipts, which also show the town, state,Zip code, and mailing method and cost.Your seller should be able to e-mail you a scan showing your item,at least.

If I expect an item to sell for big money,I make insurance mandatory as part of the shipping calculator.
On cheaper items,I've made good on two items that were lost in the mail, but that's two out of a couple thousand items over 7 years. The USPS is pretty reliable.
I have a friend who does maintenence on USPS vehicles and he told me that,on several occasions, he has found mail that had slipped under the seats or got into some other nook or cranny in a vehicle.
Trucks that move mail can be involved in an accident and catch fire. You won't see it on the news much,as the USPS likes to keep it low key.

Hey Kevin... Don't give up on it yet I've had two shippments that have taken over 35 days from date of seller mail date one was 42 days . I called USPS and got a return call, I bitched and complained, the little gal just kept saying it was parcel post what did I expect? , I said a lot faster than 42 days even pony express was faster than that. YOU MAY STILL GET YOUR PACKAGE...Good Luck...hogdog

If you paid using Paypal, just file a "Never received" claim.

Paypal will ask the seller for his "Proof of Delivery". If he can't send them this, they will transfer the money from his account back to yours. If his account is empty, they will get the money from his future sales.
The only way he won't refund the money is if he never sells again.
Insurance doesn't enter into it.

Mike

Excellent point. Everytime I ship, I get a receipt that shows what zip code the item was sent to.

Thanks Guys. This seller does have a USPS receipt... shows that it's been 33 or 34 days in transit. I filed one of those Paypal "did not receive" disputes, and I think I'm done with what I can do... I can sit back and see what happens.

Thanks again for all the responses. It's encourageing to hear that some people went through this same situation and actually got their knife or a refund. I'd be happy with a refund, but I'd be even happier with the knife!

Micheal now you are a lawyer. How did you learn about Paypal oh yeah I remember? Hope you are well give me a call I plan to sober up in a month or so LT. PS Paypal is a pain in the ass and tends to support the claim of the buyer even if the seller has proof from the pope. I would bet you will get your money. Sorry I could not respond sooner Only my buddy ML could kick me into a response. By the way folks he is a hider but Beats the stock market is a sharp as any knife ever made and as straight as any arrow ever made amazing he came out and actually posted . About as smart as any one I ever met in this field. There I hope I embarrassed you with what a great person you are.

Richard, you're too kind.
As one of the "Lurkers" I must say that I do enjoy all the discussion here in the Schrade Forum. I've collected antique knives for 30 years and must say that Richard never ceases to amaze and impress me with his knowledge. He is a wealth of information, and one of the finest fellows I've had the privledge to meet. I think some of the forum lurkers are probably a bit like me, very interested, but also very short one time. Will try to pay the members back for the knowledge gained sometime.

Beats the stock market ie (ML) is just being coy. When it comes to old knives especially automatics he is up there with the best. In fact when it comes to any wierd collectable he probably is the consumate champ he lives in a world surrounded by just about every kind of curiosa possible ( which is only right since he himself is probably the oddest curiosity of all ). Guns, knives, cannons dead animals hell stuff nobody is even sure what it is or was except him. He is from Nebraska. Where the hell is Nebraska? What the hell is Nebraska? The only person I ever heard of from Nebraska was Buffalo Bill , ML has his robe and probably hat, socks underware and possibly beard maybe parts of old Bill himself. His house is like mine if Buffalo Bill is in there and he forgets where it could take five years for him to stumble over the remains.

One time I passed the comment to him that as Rodger Miller used to say you can't roller skate in a buffalo herd. He asked me if I knew why you couldn't roller skate in a buffalo herd. I said I was not sure but it sounded dangerous he said it was even for a buffalo he said a feller could lose a foot or worse . A couple of days later I received the ( animal ) item ( see pic) in the mail. He said not to worry and to keep it since a lot of the local Buffalos ( seems while they do not have many people they have a lot of danger loving roller skating Buffalos in Nebraska.) Had lost appendages recently. In fact it seems the only products produced in Nebraska are Buffalo appendage ashtrays and tornados.

Now that all this is said and done I know I poured myself a shot if I can only remember where I put it. LT PS All kidding aside Nebraska and ML are the best. PPS he said he would not miss the hoof since he had a whole herd full ( of hoofs that is )
