When to give bad feedback

I bought a knife off Ebay almost a month ago. Still no knife. I have sent two emails and no replies to either. All of the feedback he has is good, tho it seems most is from buying, not selling. If he would have replied, and said it had been shipped, I would have been OK and figured it lost in mail. Maybe he thought is was worth more, and did not want to sell for that price.
It still may have been lost, but not replying to my email, really irks me.
I am sure he got the emails, after the first one I sent, I got my positive feedback, but no reply.
I hate to be the first negative, but I am really considering it.
Maybe one more email letting him know if I do not hear from him, negative is what I am leaving.
Thoughts?

You shouldn't have let it go this long.

Rather than negative feedback, you should dispute the transaction and try to get your money back, but you can only do that within 30 days of the auction close.

Mods: I know this thread is off-topic, but I want to save this guy's money if possible. Been there myself with shady sellers, it sucks.

Gotta go with Gryffin here.

30 day window to work with ebay/paypal to get their leverage working for you, so I would definitely get going with that.

Sometimes it helps with your emails to use CAPS, something like REPLY REQUESTED, ITEM NOT RECVD, something like that, people get so many emails these days. Including now "spoof" emails from ebay that people ignore automatically.

I used the PayPal claim system once, and it worked.

Don't worry Gryffin, there's not too much that qualifies as "off-topic" in here...

Heck, we even take care of trolls ourselves...:D (see DVM, I can use this smilie too)

I agree that you should send one more email telling of your intent to pursue a dispute. And give them x days to respond. At least that will show ebay that you made an attempt.

I have been burnt on ebay only twice. One was a crook, that was my fault. The other, the seller sold so much stuff they lost the item. It is your money, so you have a right to something in return. Maybe you can negotiate a different knife with the seller if they lost or sold it already.

And sometimes it is better to cut your loss and move on.

But that is your choice.

Good luck

Glenn

I just got my money back for an 885UH that never arrived! Go through PayPal -file a claim and dispute the payment. You'll get your money back - I did. I'm not planning on leaving any feedback. I'm putting it down as a 'do over'.

I have to agree with the consensus. Send one last e-mail, informing the seller you'll filing a claim, the DO IT! You don't have much time left. The only thing leaving negative feedback does is usually generate a "retaliatory negative feedback" for you. Also, post clearly in GBU, what happened and what the deal is. You won't be subject to a retaliatory strike, and you'll have a similar (if not greater) effect.

Well, I took the advice here and sent one last, somewhat threatening email.
He finally responded, saying he had been in a accident. Well after checking feedback, he had made something like 12 other auctions since then, buying and selling. Accident??? Right.......
