Hello again,
First, let me say thanks for a great welcome yesterday and today to all those who responded to my first post - much appreciated!!

Being new to this forum, I don't know if this has ever been discussed before, so forgive me if it has, so here goes!

Some years ago, I came across a great article in a gun magizine of all places about how important it is to carry a knife with you when you take a dog for a walk. Now at first, you may think this would be common sense - if another animal/person were to attack it would be nice to have a knife. But this was not the reason cited in the article!!

The writer told the story about how his dog (on a leash) took off after a racoon, but got severly tangled up with its leash after jumping over a fense - the dog was literally being hung buy the neck - out came his knife, and it literally saved his dog who would have died in another few seconds.
Since then, I have been faithfully carrying my DESSERT STORM every morning when I walk the dogs.

Luckily, I have never had to use it (its still a virgin), and I will be replacing it when my new NARK gets here (the Nark seems better suited for the job of cutting rope, etc. for which it was designed).

So, for all you dog lovers, always take that knife along! Maybe Jerry can create a special "DOG WALKER" for all us animal lovers.

See ya

WOW! That's one Hell of a dog walking knife!! Any Pics Please?

Do you mean the desert storm fighter? If so I'd have to agree....thats a serious blade for dog walking :D

don't have pictures at this time, but I will take some and post tomarrow - its a great little knife!

Yes, I believe it was made by Jerry in 92 for special forces in operation Dessert Storm.

No, he's talking about the special Thick Desert Mean Street with tan handles! It is very rare as well, though! I know what it is, cause I helped him find it!!!

I'm toying with the idea of getting a harness for my cattle dog (Angel), so that he can carry my Magnum EU-17. The fat little bugger needs to work harder when we go for a walk.

Ian,

He nearly fell over a roo on Saturday, and I'm not sure he knew what to do with it. Carrying a blade might inspire him.

I keep getting my wife to carry a knife when she walks our dog. Some idiot woman runs every morning with a large Dane, and even after the Dane has tried to attack both my wife and our dog, she continues to run with it on a very weak tether. Every time they pass her the Dane stops and growls viciously and the stupid b---- has to try and hold it back. The trick is, getting my wife to use the knife and use it properly if she ever needs it.

I think the DWMS is a great piece for "walkin the dog".

The NARK will be even better, since it will allow cutting edge on two fronts should emergency cutting be required.

Charlie, since you're retirin that mint fat DWMS, I'll give ya, oh, say, $40???

They are long obsolete, and ya can't get parts for them anymore, so........I'd be glad to take it off your hands and free up some room for ya..... ;)

To Trumby,
Now thats a DOG! Looks like he will never be in trouble, as a matter of fact, looks like he could help you out of difficult situations. ;)

To Thatmguy,
Thanks for the great offer, but I think the DWMS is a keeper!

That was taken when he was 12 weeks old. :D

He’s big enough to carry a MOAB around his neck now. :D
Ian.

Why not just pick up the dog and unhook it from the leash? I've never carried a knife when walking my dog, and the idea sounds pretty silly to me. If a crazy, unarmed guy tried to attack, my big dog and I would easily overpower him. If he had a gun, well, I'm boned anyways, and a knife at a gun fight isn't going to do me any good.

Try picking up a ball of muscle and teeth when it is scared/oxygen starved out of its brain. Not going to work.

To ERIC 425,
It sounds like you never walked your dog on a leash, and had it tangle up with other leashes while a dog fight ensued. Sometimes cutting them loose before trying to break up a fight might be the better way, might save you from getting some nasty bites. Plus, I've seen some pretty bad entanglements - those long leashes that pull out 25 feet or so can be tricky
.
You are right though about being attacked - my dogs would defend my wife and I honorably against man or beast!

Yeah, I guess. I've never let my dog get in close enough to fight with another dog and tangle the leash. I don't think I've ever had an entanglement. But seems like either way, it'd be a losing situation. If cut loose, the dogs would still be going at it and hurt each other.
