Hi Guys, Can anyone let me know when & why Scrap Yard Knife switch to the current SR-101 steel from the original SR-77(S-7) steel? Also would the knife made from the SR-77 steel be more valuable? Any info would be greatly appreciated & Thanks

Not sure on when, but as to value, not really as say a Dog Father will always be worth what a Dog Father is worth, as from what I can see Scrap Yard never made the same model out of both SR77 and 101. Some may well prefer the SR77 blade, sure but if this is the factor that drives up the price, I don't think so entirely (a factor perhaps), in this case it will be more about that particular model and the desirability of such. Had they made say Dog Fathers in BOTH SR77 and 101 then there may be more of a price influence from the steel as you are able to cost apples against apples so to speak.

And ignore Bravado, he has just been cranky since he was neutered.

I think the Regulator was the 1st and they have all been SR101 since then. So - late 2009 abouts. Maybe 2010....... Hope that helps. ;)

Why? Because Dan run out of jackhammer bits he could nick in Ohio.

S7 is an impact steel, which is fine for the big choppers, but I'm not sure about the edge holding for a knife.
SR-101 (52100) is a highly wear resistant steel (ball bearings) so would have somewhat (not really that much) less of the impact toughness but the edge will hold better.

Scrapyard uses whatever steel Dan can get his hands on. I am constantly having to go steal steel back from him. If you leave it lay around too long he will take it.
