..but you insist on having a cutting instrument for legitimate self-defense, bring a beer bottle and use it as a water bottle. Everybody is carrying water bottles these days. You can wrap the neck with that athletic/medical tape (whatever they call that non-slip stuff) for secure handling. Think about it: with a bottle you can whack someone on the head, and in this process of disorienting them, you just made an even more effective weapon (should matters escalate, and you're FORCED to defend yourself).

Instead of the plastic Evian bottle - a beer bottle filled with tap water (re-sealed with a cork?), neck wrapped in tape for non-slip drinking, carried into a place where one would not ordinarily bring a beer? I suspect courthouse security would wonder about it.

Some of the martial artists around here have suggested a two AA-cell Mag-Lite as a kubaton substitute, or maybe a stout ballpoint pen if you want penetration. High security places, short of jails and prisons, still allow writing implements.

In any case, this is a non-knife "tactical" sort of thread, and Practical Tactical seems like a good place to move it to, where it might get the benefit of more tactical wisdom.
