When you buy a new knife do you hide it from your significant other?

When I make a knife purchase I usually am to happy to contain myself and have to show it off to all my pseudoknife friends, and family.

I have a friend who hides his purchases till he can buy something for his wife too  , I always tell him if he were more honest with her he'd have twice as many knives :) , his wife says if he didn't buy her something every time he'd have a hell of a lot less knives. :footinmou

She knows it's coming before it arrives. Besides, I'm still teaching her the finer points (no pun intended...ok, it was :p ) of knife selection.

Have done it both ways, and believe me it is MUCH better to be upfront about your knife purchases! Of course if you are one of those folks that has to learn the hard way...........................................GOOD LUCK!!

My wife is my best friend, so I typically want to share my excitement with her. I don't always mention the cost of these items, but she usually knows when a new item is coming and I can't hide my anticipation from her. She just seems to *know* anyway, so hiding it is fruitless.

Typically I would be up front. However, during a recent three month deployment I managed to purchase an Emerson CQC-7, Benchmade 710, CRKT Desert Cruiser and associated other small knives. I broke out the Emerson and the CRKT up front. The Benchmade is just beginning to make a public appearance. I think the diamond earrings I got her somewhat took the "edge" off the issue but she is still wondering just how many knives I purchased ;)

My girlfriend likes knives almost as much as I do. :D :D :D

So I don't ned to hide nothin'

When I had an S.O. it never became an issue. He knew I carried a knife with me and never seemed to be disturbed by it, though he seemed a tad amused the first time he saw it. 'Sides, he liked to collect swords, so...

My wife doesn't know one knife from another so she wouldn't notice a new knife in my pocket or being used elsewhere. She also gets home about a half hour after I do (I have dinner almost finished by then) so she doesn't get the mail first. ...but nontheless, I don't hide anything from her. I am in the declining inventory mode right now anyway so when I purchase a new knife, it's usually because I've already liquidated one or two. She knows there isn't any "new" money going into the deal.

SO, does that mean you're single and available?

Hiding things from your wife is delaying the eventual finding of onesself in a $hittload of trouble when she no longer trusts you. My wife knows I like knives, and that I occasionally order them, but I always tell her. I mean, I only buy knives that I use, so she'll eventually see them. Its insulting her intelligence for me to look at a knife I'm strapping on that she's obviously not seen before and tell her "no, I've had this for a while!" Hiding things from the wife will always lead to trouble, and perhaps even divorce court.

Sincerely,
Anthony

My wife thinks they all look alike and does not even look at the display cases, much less notice any additions. She does raise an eyebow when I order more cases, as that says something. ;)

I have told my wife about some of my purchases and not told her about others. It's not that I try to hide them from her, but not knife crazy like me. She does like autos, so I show her those. I make sure to tell her about the ones I think she would like. She doesn't really care what I buy as long as I use my money and I don't go to crazy with it like I did this past January. I don't even rember how many I bought, but I got a good talking to. And I don't think she even knew about some of them.

How does one hide a credit card bill from their spouse?
Get yourself a seperate bank account and credit card, and make sure you have all of those bills sent to your girlfriends address. :D

With my wife it's kind of like hide in plain site. I buy mostly stag so they all kind of look the same to her. I don't buy knives I can't afford. so she can never say I'm spending too much. Besides, for some strange reason she thinks that none of my knives cost more than $20.

Bwahahahahaha

I don't hide them, but I don't point them out to her either. My knife budget is pretty small compared to most people here.

I really don't hide my new knives from my fiancee, but I sure don't tell her the prices :D
And she doesn't bother with it, either. She can hardly notice differences between my knives, so the impression does not get so hard on her.

Recently, she was playing with my new SC Sebenza and told me it is "cute"...

I've heard it called alot of things before, but never cute.

A lack of intrest can be a problem, PLUS men and women ARE different. I have at times purchased a knife and really never thought to tell my wife about it due to her disintrest in knives. Like a lot of folks I rarely fund any knife purchases with "new" money, it is sell the old to buy the new!
