Ive been looking at Shcrade/Case/Uncle Henry/Bear and Son just to name a few. I want to buy a few decent but not to expensive knives to hand to my buddies. Any suggestions what holds the best edge?

For best edge holding, try some Rough Ryders. Their vg10 and d2 etc are not bad. A little under par, but better than tru-sharp and xcrxmov.

Bear and son heat treat and fit and finish are ALL over the place, and not in a good way.

Schrade recently releases some cheap heritage (or something like that) knives in d2, I've yet to check them out but they look promising.

I'd go with Rough Ryder, Marbles, or new Schrade D2 models (have two-good knives). Also good Victorinox; Tinker, Climber, Bantam, etc. Lots of models and sizes inexpensive (I love Victorinox knives).

What is your definition of inexpensive?

I'm also a fan of Victorinox Swiss Army Knives. If you truly want a 2 or 3 blade knife, then Rough Ryder as mentioned above is probably the best choice.

Good luck

Buck 300 series holds the best edge. Not sure that they fully count as "inexpensive" these days though.

Check out Joker knives from Spain. Relatively inexpensive and good quality!

Another vote for Rough Ryder/Marbles. A 3-bladed pattern I find particularly attractive is their Sowbelly Stockman, abailable in a wide variety of attractive finishes.

the new kershaws should be considered, they use 7cr17, which is actually a nice steel for these, and under $40

I assume you meant two or three blade, but if you really do want three BAD, then get an Imperial Schrade. I don't know how they used to be (Wait, I do - good) but now their slipjoints showed me how BAD a slipjoint can be. Their "Uncle Henry" brand is a little better, I kind of like the OT Workmate, but I'd say Rough Ryder has way better fit and finish for the cash, than Case. but Case is not too bad. Victorinox is good, too, always would rec a Victorinox, and it is a single blade but Opinels are great.

Opinel or SA, or try the MAM line for inexpensive but decent quality.
