When's the Large better?

I love the handle ergonomics of the Large, it fits my hand like a glove, but I've never carried an EDC this large before. In terms of cutting tasks, when is the large better than the small? What advantages does this blade have?

just depends on the person... I use my small every day for anything that needs to be cut, I have a large but never carry it. so if you like the way the large feels go with it. I think it carries well because it's slim but still like my small better

I like my large for food prep such as fruit or cutting a muffin in half. Plus it fits my hand well.

Large is better when that is what you want. I carry both type of sebenzas depending on mood.

Just because it is called the small does not mean it is less. The small sebenza's cutting edge is almost as long as a Strider SnG (~3in). The SnG is not a "small" knife at over 8in tip to tail. (It is just 1/4in shy of a large sebenza). IMO CRK just maximizes the use of space with the his folders. That is why the small carries so easily. You still get a lot of knife packed into those handles.

I really like my Strider SnGs. I am not trying to say anything about their engineering or abilities as a knife. I was just using another folder that I own for comparison.

(All measurements based off of TNKs stats.)

I know the small will cover probably 90% of my cutting needs. BUT, I carry my large regular sebenza 90% of the time. The other 10% I split between a small sebenza and mnandi. I have never found it to be too big. I havent had too many negative responces either. If I do notice someone is a little freaked about the large regular, I show them the NCIS engraving and they seem to forget about it. Thats where I think a unique graphic comes in. It diffuses the situation, in my experience anyways. I am getting a umnumzaan in a trade and I look forward to seeing how it compares to my large regular. I am sure the small will cover most peoples needs, but I think alot of us prefer the large because we know the extra blade length is there if we need it. Like the old saying goes: " Its better to have it and not need it, than to need it and not have it". Plus the large fits my hands much better than the small, I know if cutting something a little tougher, I can get much more leverage with the large. Alot of it comes down to personal preference, hand size, etc......I dont find the large to be that large even. its only the large because CRK says it is.....lol. Its nice and thin, very lightweight, but conceals quite a large blade for its size comparable to others makers. I prefer the large, nothing has been able to knock it out of my pocket yet. Not even my strider and small sebbie. Its my pocket heavyweight champ....the umnumzaan is the next challenger !!!

For those of you who EDC a large, how do you think it fits in the dress pant pocket? I've tried several pair of my slacks on with it in my pocket, but I'm looking for it so it feels really noticeable. Do you think a large is that noticeable?

I agree it's mostly a matter of personal preference. Saying the small isn't much smaller than the large is also saying the large isn't much bigger than the small. :) Once you carry the large for a while, it won't seem so big.

I carried a small for a while but once I got a Mnandi, that made more sense as a gentleman's knife.

I do not wear slacks to work, I wear khakis. I have never had anyone say anything about any knife until I was using it. As a knife person I do look for clips in people's pockets. However, I do not believe that non-knife people really look for clips.

I've never thought about clipping my knife to a pair of khakis, I always do with jeans, but for some reason with any of other style of pants the knife always goes directly in the pocket. Does it work well?

It works for me. I carry them at the back of the right front pocket (blade laying against the pants seam). It seems carry just as well as jeans, as long as the knife is not too heavy.

The large is easier to use with gloves, one of the reasons it is my work EDC.

Ask any women...

Size matters :p

Large is ALWAYS better!

So, "When's the Large better?"

ALWAYS :D :D :D

large all the way for me, It just fits my needs...... I don't think there's a noticeable difference on the outside, that's visible to people, between a large and small seb. Better to have enough blade than too little for me,I gave my Minandi to a friend who it was better suited to, he wouldn't carry a large, personal; preference,,,,,, hm, am I compensating for,,,,,, no just cutting! Bart1

I carry my large Sebbie all the time,I have Benchmade,Spyderco,SOG,several types from each maker. Everyday for the last 2 yrs (Sebenza bought 2yrs ago)
I choose to carry my Sebbie over rukus, mini rukus, endura, delica, rift.Living in a rural community fishing, hunting, mountain biking, survival outing, etc. All that said
I don't own a small I LOVE my large,Never crossed my mind to get a small, besides I'm not sure if a small will slice a english muffin straight across :D

I like the Large Regular much more then the small. I have a small hand, but the small handle is hard for me to handle. While the large handle fits me very well, it just feels right. I usually don't need a large blade like the Large Regular but it doesn't get in the way. It's not too big.

I have come to prefer the Large after having carried the Small for a long time. So I would say the Large is better whenever circumstances don't dictate the Small.

I carry a small everyday for work. I wear slacks and it fits just fine. I find that the large is just too big for me. I'm use to carrying smaller knives in general, (delica, mini-grip, caly3. etc) and find that my Small sebenza does everything I need it to do. I even once had to use it to baton through around 4 firelogs in an emergency....so yeah the small is no slouch.....

i carry the mnandi for dress up, the small for work, and the large all other times. i prefer the large for the feel in the hand, but even the mnandi is all i really need.
