I would like to get started with knifemaking, but I seem to be getting nowhere looking at the sites that sell steel since I don't even know what kind I should be getting.
I am going to be making this mini forge, and I was wondering if having this would make me able to buy forging steel, or if I should just stick with buying normal steel. As for what type of steel to eventually buy, I think I have that figured out with the guides around here on what types are good for what.
So the question is just whether my mini forge would let me work with forging steel or should I buy normal steel.
Another thing, I am thinking of just using a cutting wheel with a dremel to cut the area or shapes out, but is that not good enough cutting power, and if not, what would you suggest as a low cost alternative?
edit: I live in ohio, in case location plays a part in suggesting a steel supply website.
