I know people on this forum have many Emerson customs, but he has been making knives for years now and there must be more than what is here. So, where are they? Who has them? Why is it so hard to find one?

Rich

Well, that is a funny thing. Those of us that are on the forums feel that we have a pretty broad scope. We do have a great online community and it is going to do nothing but get bigger for the forseeable future. However, the vast majority of the people the I visit with at the many shows we attend have never been to the forums let alone heard of them. I know that this is not really an answer to your query but I had no idea until fairly recently that most of the knife community is not hooked into the internet.

A good portion of the customs have gone to operators who may not have yet delved into the computer realm or coose not to make their prescence known. I read somewhere once that for every registered poster there are 100 lurking.

There are also a fair amount that are not in the US. Japan and Europe both have a pretty large Emerson following.

Take care,
Derek

RJ,
I think Derek is right on point.
That is a big part of the Mystique and interesting phenomenom about these superb knives.
Ernie rarely keeps any knives for himself and at times there are none availible for references.
Alot of Custom's went to legit Operators
who by nature of their mindset prefer to remain in the shadows. It took me some time to feel comfortable with sharing my inventory and insights. I suspect there are others as well. Operators current and past have a axiom of "Silent Pride". You need to understand this concept. In their mindset they could care less about what the rhetoric, hyperbole, & general public's perception is etc. It is a very big part of the Mysique and intrigue of these knives.

Hope that helps

I figured the reason was that most of the Emerson cusstom owners were no on the net. Hopefully people will start to open up more and share their collects with us. I just love most of the Emerson customs that I have owned/seen.

I know that I didn't post because for the longest time I couldn't afford a half decent computer. My money was being funneled towards Emerson purchases.

Ross,
I know exactly what you mean. I have an older computer myself. I want to be able to surf the net, but not at the expense of great knives.

Right now the market is very tight so you are not seeing nearly as many coming up for sale. They are out there that's for sure. BladeForums rocks but you have to broaden your scope to see more.
I have known and met SEALs and SF Divers. Many have got a very different perspective regarding knives than we do. Its knida like this: We get what we need and use it...nuff said.
Most of these guys are way more interested in delivery systems, commo gear, firearms and ordinance than knives.
