(as edited by Bastid, second thread edited in this manner)

Good a place as any for my reply. I've had regular contact with Johny through both of us growing our collections since meeting here. While I understand he's under tremendous stress (forcing him to sell everything of value he holds dear it appears), and while I certainly do not condone his conduct here tonight (surprised me really, but severe stress will make folks act out of character too, seen it before), that is not an excuse for mods to alter his posts in the manner above.

IMHO, that is unprofessional behavior, and puts the offending mod in the same class (or lack there of) as the offending post to begin with. It's simply not the function moderators are intended for.

Of course attacks on mods obviously cannot be left to stand, nor should they. Not only a violation of the rules, but just bad form in general. And if offensive posts need to be deleted, that is understood. But to alter a post to put self deprecating words in the mouth of the original poster is simply childish, and an abuse of the power granted a moderator. It lowers the mod to the level of the offending poster.

Very sorry to see this whole ugly mess tonight. But lets not make it worse by retaliating, shall we?

Let’s see if we can find the right forum …

I don't know, maybe there are moderators somewhere who are able to put up with all the aggravations without going nuts and having to be locked up in a padded cell, yet who have no sense of humor. Maybe you can find a forum with moderators like that and go there and be happier there than you are here at Bladeforums. Close the Door Lightly When You Go

So this is the response of constructive criticism here? Invite a member who contributes positively to the discussion of the board to leave?

That would be up to you. You are certainly welcome to participate here, and you are welcome to criticize the moderators and say they are no better than spammers and trolls if that's the way you feel.

The New Colossus

like the brazen giant of Greek fame,

With conquering limbs astride from land to land;

Here at our sea-washed, sunset gates shall stand

A mighty woman with a torch, whose flame

Is the imprisoned lightning, and her name

Mother of Exiles. From her beacon-hand

Glows world-wide welcome; her mild eyes command

The air-bridged harbor that twin cities frame.

"Keep ancient lands, your storied pomp!" cries she

With silent lips. "Give me your tired, your poor,

Your huddled masses yearning to breathe free,

The wretched refuse of your teeming shore.

Send these, the homeless, tempest-tost to me,

I lift my lamp beside the golden door!"

T Bone, do you think it was one offending post that annoyed us? Your friend went nuts on us and the forum tonight. In one half hour he spewed more venom over a simple minor action (that he could have questioned politely and possibly gotten reversed or explained) than I could believe. It looked like he came here determined to be disruptive, vulgar, obnoxious -- and banned.

We left most of it untouched for everyone to see. One last parting shot got shot down. Enough already. When you own and run a forum, you can give your moderators the instructions you feel proper. Bladeforums allows all members including moderators a lot of leeway in how we express ourselves. But we're not punching bags, and if we weren't assertive in the first place, we couldn't do the job.

If I he choses to treat this community as lightly as he did, I am gone to to make light at his behavior.

T-bone, you are just going to have to deal with that fact. We put a lot effort into this community to let someone like him be coddled.

Fact is, he does have a problem and does need professional help.

Moderators are not on-duty 24/7 (except Cougar... and even he gets three 15-minute breaks per day, union rules). If you report a post, do not expect instant action.

Mr. Cakes reported a post. When action didn't happen within minutes, he went balistic including this

Ok, Ok...maybe I was too harsh on the mods...I have love and respect for them, but this Gollnick guy has to get a life.

Where was I? I was in the sauna at my club. It's not much of a life, I know, but it's what I've got.

Yes, you my friend, are a limp dick loser....is that a glamour shot you took at the mall??

You're looking real sharp there fella

You reported my post???

You fuckin Nazi...you can go fuck yourself as well.

Go report that asshole

Just a couple of examples of his behavior. Not to mention several posts lashing out at Chuck.

His disrespect deserves no respect from me.

Gollnick, I hear you. Emma Lazarus left one line out of the final version. It made it much too long, but perhaps would have mellowed the message:

I lift my glass beside the sauna door! :D

ah well.
he did deserve that ban from what i have seen...

but others get swiftly banned for much lesser offences!

That's a useless comment. Without a specific reference, we can't tell if you might be right, or you just don't know exactly how serious the "lesser offence" really was.

the member viralcode had contributed a lot to the community, he was a personal friend of mine.

with over 500 posts under his belt he was banned without question...

couger allen said he had offended twice...

i spoke to him and he said he made an error and before he could correct it he was banned!

have a look at the balisong sub forum for more info!

My suggestion is when people go ballistic and come here to complain, they should post a link back to the hysterics so I don't have to go look for them. Thanks.

Viralcode was banned for selling without a paying membership. It wasn't the first time he'd done so. Sorry, but the rules are clearly posted and very easy to follow.

IMHO. go mods! But i do think you should give him a break if he's really going through a lot. Maybe a month ban... But only if he apologizes to the WHOLE forum, esp Chuck. (cuz he's super cool) (or not...)<<< about the ban for a month thing not Chuck

Everybody has times when they go through bad times, either you keep it together or you don't, and if you don't there are consequences. The rules were clear, how about giving the mods a break?

Sorry Jes, I disagree. The ONLY rational response from the Mod team IMHO in Johny's case was perma-ban. As much pointless attacking as he did (you may have missed some of the threads), it would have been silly to consider anything less.

My problem, my original complaint, was that one mod instead of censoring or deleting two of the offending posts, edited in new words mocking Johny in the first person, which was just juvenile, and beneath any mods on any of the other forums I frequent. Perhaps he was just defending his friend, but the friend he was defending I doubt would respond in such a way (everything I've seen from Chuck Gollnick shows him to behave in the professional manner one would expect).

As has been pointed out above (by yet another mod) if I don't like it, I'm free to go. And based on a recent taunting post by the orignal mod I complained about, I'll say that if that keeps up, I shall do just that.

I come here neither to spew crap nor to take crap, but to participate in the relevant discussion of knives and for an exchange of knowledge.

Having read both the original and edited versions of the post in question, your "friend" deserved his banning, period. No amount of whining will change it.

If you don't like it, you can hit the log out button. The mods aren't here to take abuse from your "friend" no matter what his mental state is. Participation in the discussion of knives is welcome. Childish behavior like what I've seen isn't.

There isn't more room for discussion on this. He broke the rules, that's on him.
