Hi All:

Been lurking for a couple days and I was wondering, where are Jaguars made. Are they of decent quality? Are the handles cheap pot metal?

Oh yeah, I go by the name knifesmith and here is a little bit about me.

Jag's are made in China, I think. i'm not really sure. and Jag handles are pretty sturdy, but the pins are not. mine came out about a week ago, but were a breeze to replace

Jag's are made in Taiwan and are of decent quality. Yes, the handles are made out of pot metal. As you stick around longer, you'll have a lot of fun and will learn everything there is about balis. Or close to it.

Welcome to the forum Knifesmith.

As a knife maker you should find some interesting stuff in a few of the earlier threads, so make sure you scroll down the list.

I'm sure everyone in here would like to gang up on you and try to talk you into making Balisongs. Do you have any pictures of your work that we could check out??

The handles of the Jaguar are made in Taiwan out of hardened steel. The blade is made in Germany by the C.J. Herbertz company. They are marked surgical steel. On the Herbertz butterfly knives the blade is marked AISI 420. The German Pat. # is 254423, which makes me wonder, sense they stole the design from Benchmade. Of course there is nothing new about that, knife makers have been using each others designs now for hundreds and even thousands of years. Thanks, JohnR7

From the several mods i have done and am doing, I can say clearly that the handles are not hardened steel, or steel at all for that matter. Some random composite type mixed metal. Pretty soft actually, but it holds up well due to the actuall amount of material in the thing. Good starters for sure.

I've gotten into trouble before on the xtreme site for saying this but seriously, I HATE JAGS! Everything about them displeases me. Handles...yes, Pins...He!! yes, ...everything!!! Nice edge though, at least the ones that I have touched or should I say...the ones that have touched me!

My 2 cents

I'm nearly certain that the handles are Zamak(Zinc with a few extra things). The zinc in the core is then plated with copper and some sort of coating seems to be baked on the top. It acts like a powder coating because when I got my Jag handle hotter than I should have, the outside started peeling.
