Where are Mantis knives made?

Just curious since I saw many like new in boxes in a shop in Afghanistan recently. There are a lot of obvious fakes here. However, these looked like they may be real ones.

Seems common for Chinese made stuff to make it here for sale and I think some of the Cold Steel and Gerbers are real here since they are Chinese made. Just wondering if the Mantis line was made in China. If not, they went through a lot of trouble to knock off a knife that isn't very high priced and not real common which is a bit odd. They tend to copy big names that cost a lot more.

I know the guys isn't popular here and not trying to stir that mess up again.

I checked the website and some photos, they don't disclose that information. And all the knives are positioned in a manner that doesn't show that part of the blade stamp ( I could be wrong, I didn't check all the photos ), and the pictures were blurry... two things that make me go Hmmm, Hmmm.;)

Mantis knives are forged in fires from the volcanoes of Valhalla. They are hammered to shape by centaur warriors, on anvils crafted from the shattered hulls of combloc tanks, and quenched with milk from the breasts of valkyries.

IIRC, there has been some question as to what alloys were actually used and exactly where the knives were made.

I think you saw standard, Chinese made, Mantis knives.

I'll have what he is smoking. :D

In looking at their website I fond my way to the faqs. They have chart they have listing steels and their properties with five steels and a bit further down under "what are your blades made of?" they list 4. Only one steel is comon between the two lists and they seem to dance around the question part of the FAQ as to what they use.

It looks like a lot of subterfuge on their part to avoid answering questions.

This made me lol in real life. LOL! :D

And sharpened on the the great pyramids at Cheops. ;)

They are then stored within the pyramid for exactly 36 minutes in order for the pyramid power to reconfigure the microstructure of the steel.

IIRC, "STR" (& maybe there were others) had some of the models & did not believe the blade steels were what they said it was. Their past literature seemed to make a big deal out of being a U.S. company (Out of Orange County, CA., I think). While they don't seem to advertise that they're made somewhere else, it seems obvious they are. Taiwan & China sounds about right. I had 2 of their knives (Both FBs). While I wasn't terribly impressed, one of them was fairly decent, but I doubt it was really 154CM, though.

Well, if it's a "real" Mantis, which I now think it may be I may have to pick it up for $20 or so just for eval. Probably will leave it here when I go since I sure as hell don't want to get on their "militia mailing list"! Unicorn milk or not!

As a matter of fact, here's what I discovered back when we were defending BF against the now infamous "Operation Bravo" spam campaign:
What I find somewhat strange is why, with almost half of their knives' blades (13 of 28 on their website) made from 420HC, and two (2 of 28 on their website) of their knives' blades made from 420J2, they don't bother to list 420HC's or 420J2's properties on their steel chart: http://www.mantisknives.com/Faqs1.html Yet, they list ZDP-189 and VG-10, neither of which I was able to find on any of the 28 knives listed on their website.

What's up with that?
