Bladeforums and Knifeforums are the place to be if you are into knives. I know a lot of makers and companies frequent these forums but a whole lot more - don't. Why not.
I am confident that the exposure here on the forums has created interest and demand for those makers and companies that use them.
I simply do not understand why anyone or any company that offers knives wouldn't be here.

I get what you mean, but I think you'd be surprised with how many custom makers either are computer illiterate or just don't like dealing with them. As fas as major companies that are already online...no time for it? Just my guess...

I think it depends on your buyers. Some copmanies probably don't expect to interact with their customers at all, other than selling them the knife.

Heck, Neil, you are a puter geek compared to me. One of these days I'll figure out how to update my website:)

Manpower is one of the problems. Most of the knife companies are small and they don't have anyone to "work" the forums. With us makers, it's the same way. Just not enough hours in the day.

Even though I am not a maker ( Not yet) but design knives , I try do get on as much as possible.

Computer problems or just as mention above it is the time people have to put in to keep the company or business going.

As Kit says there are just too few hours in a day to make knives and spend time on line.

If people have questions we are happy to help if we can.

Kit,

The days of updating my own website are long gone. I'd go out of my mind before I learned how to use the software:eek: I can make the knives and take the pictures, beyond that, I leave it to the pros!!

Makers I have discussed this with say that they either don't have the time or the inclination to spend time on the internet. Some have given it a try and received a poor reception; this has caused them to think that being involved in the forums is not worth the headache. There are others that don't take criticism well and don't appreciate people making negative comments about their knives. A forum is not the place for makers (or anyone else for that matter) with thin skins.

As has been stated, small manufacturers don't have the personnel or the time to look after forums. Most larger manufacturers do have forums. Sometimes they are there own, sometimes they have a single forum in one of the big internet knife communities and sometimes they take part in many forums. This can be very time consuming and I really appreciate the effort that these companies put into their forums.

As much as many here would love to see all the makers and manufacturers taking part here, that is never going to happen. The fact that we have so many of them makes BladeForums the best place to communicate these individuals and companies. As time goes along, more will come and some will leave; that is the nature of forums. We should just take advantage of their input while we can.
