Where are the knife manufactures and do some of these companies exist >>

I saved a knife image from Ebay (no name mentioned in auction) and by luck today. I happen to spot the knife, but in a smaller version. Wanted to email the company and see if they made the same knife in a larger size, but no company.

Found a big story, it's history etc., but no actual factory link. Only retail outlets.

Same thing when I was interested in having a knife made and did a search on Seki-City manufacturers and again. No actual companies. Just retailers of the brand names. Searching on the brand names only brought up retailers. Found one actual company, but nothing on many that looked interesting.

Do these companies even exist or are they Chinese made or massed produced Japanese knives sold under histories of defunct companies?

Can you be a little more specific? A lot of the makers in Seki only make knives for other companies, and don't have a brand of their own. Most of them won't even talk to you unless you want at least 600 pieces made.

A lot of old knife company names are being used to sell Chinese knives these days, Schrade among them.

Without something specific, no one can help you.

One manufacture I was looking for was a German company called Linder. Found someone selling knives under than name. but they sold other companies knives also, so I assume it's not the knife company.

I can buy the smaller knife from a retail company, but not the version I was interested in

If you google "Linder knives," you'll find the website right at the top. They have a contact form for any questions you have. They are based out of Solingen Germany and have been around since approximately 1850 in some form or another.
