Where are the Morse Code Sebenzas?

Anyone know who has the 5 Morse Code Sebenzas that are "in the wild?"

Most Sebenzaholics are probably familiar with the story of these knives. Chris wanted to put his "Think Twice, Cut Once" slogan on a knife in Morse Code, and Anne's father, Jimmy Cameron, knew Morse Code from his days as a wireless operator during WWII. He was in the hopspital in South Africa at the time, so he whistled the code and Anne's mom faxed the dashes and dots to her in Idaho.

Somewhere along the way, the code got mixed up and the knives say "Think Tuice" instead of "Think Twice." Sadly, Anne's father passed away within a few days, and Chris and Anne dedicated the Morse Code Sebenza to Jimmy Cameron.

Chris made 6 of the knives, and kept one. Five of them are "in the wild" somewhere.

Bruce Voyles wrote an article about them in the November 2000 issue of Knives Illustrated, and he owned one.

NCBlades posted here in 2001 about owning one that he got from Bobby Branton. Interestingly, the born-on date Michael mentions on his knife appears to be the same as the date shown on the birth certificate in the Voyles article, so maybe Michael owns Bruce Voyles' knife, or maybe two were born on the same date. I will email Bruce to ask if he still has his unless Michael or Bobby know whether it is the same knife and want to chime in here.

One was sold on CandlePowerForums in 2008 by a member named Carpe Diem (don't know if he would divulge who the buyer was).

So that makes 2 or 3...Anyone know about the others?

Wow! First time I have read about this. Damn that is sweet and I have to thank you for this piece of history that has somewhat been unknown!

Matt, great post. I forgot about those, but I still have the magazine article about them. That would be very cool to learn where they all went. Hope someone can chime in where the other 5 are.

That's an awes story and special knife. Wish CRK's would do a sprint run of them.

I just read this and wow, I've never heard that (learn something new everyday). I would love to know what happened to these elusive sebenzas.

Hi,

I bought the one on CPF, so one of them made its way to the Netherlands ;-)
Would be nice to know where the others are.

I got a copy of the fax/letters surrounding this knife from Ann at CRK. Stunning piece of CRK history.

I have that I purchased from Chris with the letter written by Anne. I don't remember if he numbered them. It's in storage along with other CRK's. I also have 4 of the gold coin series, all No. 16. Nos. 7&8 of 9 of the classic ports, a Mnandi proto from the first run(no clip), a Mnandi proto from the 2nd run(with clip) and bunch of other stuff. Altogether, including fixed blades, approximately 45 to 50 pieces. Still not as many as St James though, but different things. I have to get of my butt and post pics. I first met Chris and Anne in 1987. Jim

Correction Nos 7 & 8 out of 9 protos of the 21 series. I typed the first post on my cell phone. Very tiny characters.

James G- that sounds like an incredible collection. I'm sure I'm not the only one here that would love to see pics of your stash!

You are not the only one who would like to see that collection :D
James G, I hope storage doesn't mean they are out of sight? These babies need to be seen ;-)

My prize pieces are the Morse code Sebenza and a giraffe bone Mnandi (number 50 of 50).

I would also love to see a H stamp Sebenza.

My first sebbie was and still is #H61, no clip(Also in storage). Up to the H61 purchase, I had acquired about 10 of the fixed blades with my initials and year of manufacture on the blade(JGP 91). One was stamped JPG. I will attempt to coerce my honey into sending pics. I could also email someone with pics to post here. Jim

Interesting....

So DUCky has one, and james g has one. The third may be owned by Bruce Voyles (I have sent him and email and have not heard back), and the fourth may be owned my NCBlades (also emailed him and have not heard back). Or the Voyles and NCBlades one may be the same. I also stumbled on an OLD post on CPF by a member named Anton that said he owned one. Unfortunately, he has not been a member of CPF since 2004 (IIRC) so I cannot contact him.

I will post any updates.

For what it's worth, there is a guy that's pretty active on another knife forum, believe he goes by "antonanton"? He's big into Mayo knives as well as others. This might be the same guy. Let me know if you need more help than that in tracking him down.

Thanks for that. As it happens, Anton is in Washington state (or was in 2004), and Antonanton is in Illinois so I suspect they are not the same guy, but I am not sure.

Still have not heard back from either Bruce Voyles or NCBlades.
