Where Are These M3s Coming From?

I see quite a few new M3 Camillus military knives being sold on e-Bay, but my searches show that these (the new versions of the old design) haven't been made by Camillus since the late 90s.

These are the new ones with the leather sheath.

Can all these be legit old stock or is somebody turning them out in a garage somewhere?

Are they fakes? If legit and Camillus-made in the late 90s, are they up to the quality standards that we hope for?

Any ideas or opinions?

I was thinking about buying one.

Without seeing the knife, I can't really say. However, they have, indeed, been made since the late '90's. At least 2000 have been made since around 2002 or 03. They were made as a special order and not for stocking as a regular item.

Sorry to jump in like this but I'm sure the owners are too busy counting their money to be bothered with their customers. (Apologies for the rant!)

Thanks, Knifeworker......I'm looking for good pictures. Can you comment on the quality of the knives you mentioned?

I'm wondering if the blades are as good as the earlier ones and also wondering if......considering what the workers have been going through over the past few years--if there the workmanship could have suffered due to the uncertainty about the future.

But, I suppose rigid inspections go on regardless.

Then there's that nagging suspicion that there seem to be too many of these on the market.......like--a never-ending supply.

Maybe even boatloads produced......where?

I don't think I'll buy one.

Hi Guys
these have even got as far as Sydney, Australia. Bought one there a couple of years ago, no box or other packaging, just the knife and sheath out of a large wooden crate. sheath marked "Camillus" on the rear, and the knife marked "US M3" and "Camillus" on the underside of the guard. There is also a little 'flaming bomb' on the pommel

I wonder if they say "Made in U.S.A." anywhere on them?

Maybe it came all the way from China to Australia?

Oppps, should have noted that the brand on the back of the sheath said Camillus
U.S.A
My bad

Camillus began making a reproduction of the M3 trench knife in the early 1990's. The M3 was offered in the regular Camillus line until a few years ago.

Camillus specially makes the M3 for Schreck Wholesale and I recall seeing them order several thousand at a time. The M3 is made at the Camillus factory.

The repro M3's are easily identified by 1 pin through the butt cap. Original M3's from WWII have 2 pins through the butt cap.
