Are you guys buying your jericans 5 gal to be exact? Trying to price out better water storage options. Had a water scare this weekend.

I would be more inclined to use containers made specifically for water rather than a jerrycan. I like the Rubbermaid 6 gallon containers myself. You should be able to find them just about anyplace that sells camping equipment. I think even Wal-mart and Target have them.

and if you go camping and you can't get your tent pegs into the ground which is all made out of coral, then you can use it to keep your tent attatched to the earth.

I have used the heavy duty clear plastic collapsible 5 gal for years for emergency water storage/camping and and recommend them highly. Easy to see if they need cleaning, very tuff, have an attachment place for hanging and a reliable on/off valve.--KV

Wal-Mart has 6 gallon green plastic water containers in the sporting goods section for about 6 bucks. I bought several for hurricane season.

the Scepter military ones are near bombproof- I use their gas ones too (after rusting through a dozen metal ones)- both are very well made

I recommend the square ones. I have some of the square ones in 5gal and some of the tall sort of old school gas can shaped ones in 7gal and for whatever reason they feel twice as heavy full as the square ones...

First of all i have to say i understand the economic times play into amount of money spent by individuals on equipment. Than being said water is one area that i do not EVER skimp on. I guess living in the Arizona/Texas heat also plays a big part in the type of container. I steer very clear of plastic containers due to having several different brands begin leaking at the seams before i just coughed up the $$$. I currently have two systems that i employ. One of which is the Wedco 5 gallon jerry can. I know they are $50 each but hey, they will stand the test of time. I know people that are still using models similar from the 40's. The second method that i employ is two tubes on either side of my roof rack on my wrangler. They are made of black PVC and capped on either end. They have a threaded attachment for a hose with an on off switch. They hold approx 4 gallons each. I use these for showers mainly, Since black they gain/retain heat fairly well. Another product i have used that is a bit more on the pricey side but fits very odd storage places is the MSR dromedary bag. You can get the 5 Gallon blue jerry cans here. http://www.expeditionexchange.com/cart/product.php?productid=18435&cat=287&page=1
