Hey guys Im hunting for new wheels like this one, that are usable. Is there a company that makes big ole cutlery grind stones anymore? My Google-Fu is pretty strong and Im having no luck save for a few 24" grinder wheels from some industrial supply's. I'd love to have a set up like Murray Carter does. but I understand those wheels cost thousands. Ideally I'm looking for 2-3 36-48" stone wheel 4-6" across, in 80-220-400+ "grits".

...someone ought to make a 36" grinder platen...

I have a about 30" by about 3" stone wheel that anyone who wants it can have it. It is too heavy for my gimpy back to fool with - so pick up only (not worth driving from Indiana). It is probably about a 36 grit. Free.

What ever you do DO NOT use one of the old sandy white antique wheels and put it under power.

Some crazy sob here on the forum ( I won't say who ) tried it and almost killed themself:eek:

Next time Nathan makes radius grinder platens it would be a good thing to order one. I have a 48 inch radius platen from him and it will allow me to change grits and maintain a constant radius

a wheel liek you are talkign about will set you back around 5K or so and you still hav eot build a holder and find a way to drive it

I have a 2" by 24" that is retired from grinding crankshaft journals. I bet it wasnt cheap to buy new. The first guy that shows up at my shop can have it.

Thanks for the reply's guys, I think I have resigned to a large radius platten too. I guys is just makes alot more sense. But I like the old stuff and ways. lol I "WAS" going to power it albeit very slowly (50 - 75 RPM no more than a 100) but I do remember what happened to THAT guy when he tried it. Oh Well Again thanks :) good luck with your new stone Stacy!
