I really want to get a fallkniven f1...WITH custom handles. I have searched everywhere so now I'm turning to the trusty forums for any info. I don't have any real problems with the stock handle, I just want something a little better looking and fits the hand. Preferably micarta or wood, no g-10. I really don't want to spend more than $200. This may be pushing it but I'm looking for something around $160. Any help/info is much appreciated, thx!

They blade blanks are available on occasion, but often cost more than the complete F1. I question whether you can buy the blade or knife and get a decent custom handle for the amount that you have budgeted.

You could look at the fällkniven "northern lights" models. They are basically leather handled versions of the standard models but you would have to double your budget.

If you just want a no nonsense convex ground blade with wood or micarta handles look at bark river knives. They have stuff that fits the bill in you price range.

Bark River did the ones with the custom handles. I have a white micarta F1 done by Fallkniven. It is a real nice knife, but the price approached $300. Oh well....

In the $300+ range, there are a host of well made custom knives to choose from. I know we all look at price differently, but I am uncomfortable spending in that range, for a factory mass produced knife.

I noted that one knife distributor has S1's with Bark River handles. The micarta and G-10 are the least expensive at just a tad over $300 and the more exotic handles run up to about $400.

Added: I hadn't priced F1's in a while and one dealer shows the least expensive F1 at over $200, so how are you possibly going to get an F1 for $160?

A no-frills F1 runs about $125 at a few websites I have seen. Lone Rider does one with custom Micarta/G10 for around $190. Where is this insane $400 coming from?

There is one dealer (don't believe they are a BF dealer) that sells the S1 with custom Bark River handles and they have many choices in stock right now. In the past, there was a selection of F1's with the handles. I really didn't look hard on the F1 but Knifeworks has them listed for $227. Just looked again and it is 3G vs VG-10. The VG-10 with plastic sheath is listed for $138. But to me any plastic handled F1 is no-frills.
