Where can I find new stainless / silver hardware for my BK2?? (updated with pics)

I removed the finish on one of my BK2's a while back and gave it a light patina.. I now want to replace the hardware for the scales with silver hardware instead of the standard black hardware.

Should I be able to locate said hardware at my local Home Depot or Lowes?? If not, where else should I look?

Does anyone happen to know the size of the bolt and nut, off hand?

Thanks...

--------UPDATE--------

Found them at my local hardware store.. It makes a huge difference. Thanks again for all of the feedback.

You can try a local hardware store, just take in one bolt and nut. You can also try a popular auction site. Search becker knife hardware

It depends i guess. Mine were 10-32x5/8. Others have said 10-24x5/8. Either thread count will work.
Search a popular auction site for: Camillus Ka Bar Becker BK&T knives handle screws/wrench.

I also bought 10-32 5/8" socket head screws (bought them on a whim, hadn't checked the FAQ) and they work, but are a little snug. I should pick up the correct size (10/24 5/8") one of these days.

I was able to find the correct hardware both and Home Depot and my local Ace Hardware/ lumberyard. It shouldn't be to hard to find but I've read some folks have trouble. Let me know if you aren't able to find what you need.

Thanks for all the feedback.. Having the correct sizes will definitely come in handy.

I have three hardware stores within a mile of my house so I'm thinking they won't be too hard to find.

Like the other guys said, I just went to my local ma and pa hardware store and matched my old hardware to the new stainless. It was super cheap and makes for a great look.

my depot didn't have 5/8, so i bought 3/4 with the idea of cutting it down, and then found out that if i used liners with micarta on my BK2, i really needed those 3/4 :>

you'll need three, so you might as well buy 6 (packages of two) of each of bolts and lock nuts... do two knives :>

I went to the local HD near me and the fasteners cabinet looked like it was hit by a tornado. There was no rhyme or reason as to what was where, why or even how, so I am resorting to buying all my hardware online. I'm thinking of just buying in bulk so I don't ever have to buy more again.

Out of curiosity, why is it the stock coated fasteners rust so fast? You'd think they wouldn't being coated...

What exactly did you used to strip your becker cuz I'm thinking hard about doing it to my BK9

Just some spray on stripper that I found at the local hardware store.. It's called "Klean Strip - Premium Stripper". It stripped every bit of the black finish off in about 10 minutes. Then I followed that up with lots of wet sanding and polishing with my dremel. Then a vinegar bath for a little patina. Then removed most of the patina with a 1500 grit wet sand. I'm really pleased with the results.

Very nice. I love the color on the handles? What did you use for that?

That was about a two month long process of staining and then removing some or most of the stain by sanding...because I wasn't happy with the color...and then repeating the process again with different stain or dye and hoping for better results. I'm finally happy with the outcome.

I was originally hoping for grey or black but that doesn't seem possible with the Becker Micarta Scales. Light brown to dark brown is about the best that you can hope for...at least in my experience.

Here's what I did..

1. Black Rit Dye
2. Sand
3. Black Shoe Polish
4. Sand
5. Cherry wood stain
6. Sand
7. Black Mahagony wood stain
8. Sand
9. Another attempt with Black Rit Dye.
10. Black permanent marker.
11. A very light wet sand.
12. More black Rit dye.

DONE!!! So just repeat that process for the same results!! Lol.

From different angles they look black, brown, redish or even a little copper.. I don't know how that happened...but it's pretty cool.

It took a long time and several attempts but somehow all of those layers of stain, dye, shoe polish, etc. came together and gave them a really nice color. I'm leaving them alone...for now.

the things google images finds if you type in "spray on stripper" :)

I was gonna say they looked like a mixture of cherry wood, copper, and brown. Either way results are results. I've been doing the same thing with my blade patina. Vinegar, sand, vinegar/water, sand, Apple cider, sand. It's hard to get it just right. Good job though!
