Where can I find this?

First off, I'm sorry if this is in the wrong forum as I'm a new member.

I'm about to start a new part-time job where I would be dealing with new people on a constant basis instead of just staying in the office like I normally would (which I'm happy about). The only thing is that I'd like to have some kind of blade with me at all times and when I'm wearing pants, it's not really a problem as it's quite easy for me to put a knife in the pocket.

However, being a that I'm a woman and I do wear skirts at times I'd like to have one on me then as well and not just in my purse (which I don't like because I can't get to it fast enough if I need it).

My question then is does anyone know where I can get the kind of blade used by Angelina Jolie in Mr. & Mrs. Smith? Or something really similar to it? I thought about just strapping on a normal knife, but those tend to be either too bulky or too large - or were unable to be opened quick enough. (Plus I did like the grip that you could use on the blade in the movie...)

My main intention in having it is for protection if I need it (which hopefully I never will). But as I don't know what it's technically called, the only things that I come up with every time I do an internet search are things like stockings, garters, etc. - not what I'm looking for.

I went in to my local knife and martial arts dealer, but they didn't have anything like that as most of the people who shop there are men and they don't know where I should start looking.

Any help you all can give me would be extremely appreciated.

Thank you!

Hey Ashley....

Welcome to BF.com

For the most part,, these types of carry systems are mostly hollywood BS...

I haven't seen a system like this that works yet.

However there are other systems such as Hideaway knives (brand name) that allow for many different types of carry,, including Bra carry...

Wearing pants,, not a problem,, there are several ways to hide a blade, either in a pocket, or IWB..

Skirt, especially with a tucked in blouse,, a little different..
If you wear a jacket or some type of vest,, then you have other options.

A folder tucked into the waist of a skirt might work...

A crazy thought...
A very light, small neck knife worn on a longer cord around the waist and tightened around the waist with a cord lock, then the knife could be carried in your waist band either in the upright position, or handing down at your side...

The only drawback to this would be if the knife slipped down and fell out of the waistband, then it would have to be retrieved by going up and under the skirt.Which would be slow to draw...

A year or so ago I made a rig for my wife that used a large kilt or diaper pin. The sheath was simply pinned in place,,wherever it was needed.
Something like this could be used with a small light knife and pinned anywhere, inside a jacket,, inside the waistband, just under so it wouldn't be seen...

I've also made concealed rigs for small light paring knives, however,, not the best knife for SD work...Your going to want something small, light, flat and deadly..

Something that comes to mind is the Spyderco SPOT or Quick,, or the Lagriff..

Maybe this has given you some ideas...
If you'd like to futher discuss themm, please feel free to drop me a note, and I could quite possibly build something for you...

Interesting problem though...

Hey Again...

On a side note...and nothing to do with you,,unless you wear high Doc Martins with a Dress(Which BTW I like), but goes along the same lines as a neck rig pulling double duty.

I've also made several boot type rigs where a Very thin flat, strong cord is used..
The foot is inserted into the loop, and you push your foot into the boot. The boot is then laced up.

The knife a Very flat and longer neck knife A Stiff KIss to be exact can be carried like this also,, much in the same way a static line is used..
The foot holds the sheath in place nd from coming out,, and also keep the sheath in place during the draw.

Anyhoo...

That's what I told the people at the shop - that I was 99.99% sure it was costuming, but I still needed something generally like it.

You actually did help out a lot, thank you! I'll go and check out the hideaway thing later tonight.

I really appreciate the fact that you gave me some names (Spyderco, etc.) because I'm basically a newbie to the knife industry, but have always had a love for them!

I have to admit though that I was disappointed by the fact that they didn't seem to have that many options for women - although I can understand that most don't have any attraction to them... I could only name one other girl in my graduating HS class that liked them as much as I did.

I also liked the pin idea - I wouldn't have thought of using one like that.

Thanks again Eric!

Edit: And underaged!

So the lady needs a knife?
Red stilettoes do well with a skirt.
(Sorry! But, just had to let that one off; not that you could hide a full length stiletto from plain sight any which way)
Speaking of skirts.
The Scots may just have the solution you so seek.

What about a Sporran worn over a pleated skirt?
I won't mention that you could also get Skean Dhu to compliment the above.
But lady, it's my honest opinion that you consider something less knifelike on a key chain preferably, or designed to worn on a neck chain.
The world isn't going to be made any safer for the individual with all the knives about, just borrow one when you have to!
It's as common as a wrist watch with people these days.

Hey Guys...

Girlyman...

That's a Great idea with a Sporran...
Alot could be done with that for sure...

I don't agree though about having a key sized knife to use as a SD blade,, unless it's something like a HAK or a small push dagger...

If your going to carry a knife for SD,, it may as well be a knife that can do the job, and you have to carry 24/7...

If you don't carry 24/7 your knot a knife knut! :)

Just an idea, but a Strider SnG can be worn with a velcro strap around your leg, or even in the waistband of your undies, without noticing it much at all. pretty much any pocket clip knife would work in the same way if you dont want to shell out the 400$ for a strider.

I also reccommend the hide away knife as an option. Perfect for anyone, works great for ladies.

Self-defense with a knife is tricky, and can be pretty messy, too, especially without some training. One advantage of the Hideaway Knife is the almost foolproof grip. Once you grab it, your hand is still free to hit, to grab something else, to hold a flashlight or stick. And you won't lose it, even if someone hits your hand or is dumb enough to try to take it away from you.

Take a look at that link. There are so many options for carrying it, including pinning it behind a lapel, you won't have any trouble concealing it.

The HAK seems great for a woman, but if you don't like it also have a look at the Emerson La Griffe.
Emerson is the company, La Griffe is the name of the knife.

My mother infact carries a modified and fileworked version of the La Griffe around her neck with a cord. She likes it.

Hey Vinny...

Cool knife,, but it is considered a push dagger,,and may be illegal is some areas....

The Benchmade Tether may be also a good option...
