Hello all -

I'm trying to find a small pocket carborundum stone for my dad. As I remember, they used to come in a plastic sheath, and you could find them at the hardware store, or army surplus stores. I don't know if they were made by Norton, or if "Carborundum" is an actual trade name. The stones are only about 4" by 1" by 1/4".

I've searched the web, but I'm not having any luck.

My dad is 87, and just rolls his eyes when I suggest he try my Sharpmaker. None of this new-fangled stuff for him!

Any help would be appreciated!

Thanks for the link. I found those while searching yesterday. They're the closest thing to the original that I've been able to find, and probably what I'll end up ordering. Some guy on Yahoo auctions has what is probably the actual stone I'm looking for, except that it's slightly used. Used ones are on eBay, too, labeled as "collectibles."

Pocket Carborundum Stone

Thanks again for your help!

Jon

You should easily be able to find one at a "mom and pop" type hardware store. I can think of three such stores here in Fresno that carries those small pocket stones.
