I would like to get a new knife made to replace my old bushcraft knife.

Would any of you have any suggestions as to a good knife maker you could recommend who would make me a knife to meet my needs.

The knife I am looking for would be as follows.

4.5" Scandinavian single bevel grind.
O1 carbon steel.
4 to 5mm thick.

Micarta slabs.

Oh and it would need to be a maker who wouldn't mind shipping to the United Kingdom.

Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Tony.

TonyC. Did you know that Wilkerson Swords is making a version of the Ray Mears survival knife that is just about what you described, with O1 and micarta slabs? It is not cheap by any means and I have only talked to my friend who has one, still it is in the UK. If you want something more traditional (yet I think less expensive) check out Jukka Hankala in Finland. His Lastu is a great knife and the steel is at least as good as O1 and is hand forged. His web site is at http://users.reppu.net.j.hankala.

I also would be interested in a Woodlore Type Scandinavian single bevel grind blade. Full Tang, 01 Steel 4-4 1/2 inch blade.

I have seen several requests for this type of blade, is there anyone willing to start to make some?

Thanks

Trekker

I also highly recomment Jukka Hankala. He sendme some pictires of his knives:

probably they are only on my site.
He makes beautifull folder also, he is really good and not only in traditional pukkos.

Just call him and ask what you need. He was so kind - he made me 6" pukko blade which I did not use to make my own knife yet - to afraid, should practice bit more until I'll be good enough to make proper handle.

Also check www.brisa.fi it is for knifmakers in general, but you may check links there.

Thanks, Vassili.

TonyC. Go to www.britishblades.com, then to Bushcraft and Wilderness forum, click on "New Woodlore Knives" and they have a photo of the new Wilkinson knife, O1 steel with black linen micarta slabs for 95 pounds, also the one with the birds head maple handles for 165 pounds.

I've made a number of puukko-style, single-bevel blades and would be willing to make a few more. Can't do micarta though. But there are plenty of other handle options out there. I have a fairly good collection of hardwoods that will not shrink or split. Drop me a line if interested.

I figured I may as well post the picture of the Wilkinson Bushcraft knife here.
