Hi guys,
I joined the forum because i am waiting for a back sheath for a Cold Steel Gurkha Kukri from Survival Sheath Systems.i ordered my sheath when it was still winter and now it's almost summer time. Since my order i have read some bad things about this company and some good. Hopefully my sheath will arrive as planned (I emailed Robert Humelbaugh again this evening, we'll see what he says). But if it doesn't then i am still on the market to get good quality back sheath. Do you guys know of anyplace to go that is reliable and does good work.
thanks for any imput
Zach

Dave Cole does some great custom work and is priced reasonable. His site is DC knives and leathers. KT

I ordered a sheath from him for my Mark Terel USK, He quoted me a week turn around and it turned in to about 3 months. But I did recieve the sheath and it is pretty bad ass. Although communitcation sometimes seemed sketchy, the Quality of product is on point. Good Luck!

tone1132 thank you for the commenting, your experience is encouraging and I'm trying to stay positive. I'm at about the three month mark now. I have read a few stories like yours and a few that have ended with a call to the Better Business Bureau and couple that have ended with Robert apologizing to the customer and giving them a refund, which SUCKS. I will be very disappointed if have to take a refund. I've seen pics of his work and it looks awesome. I don't really have a problem with waiting (although i would like to show it off on my trip to Maine this summer) but i would feel a lot better if he would respond to that email i sent the other day. Anyway, thanks for the encouraging remark.

Well you may have to keep emailing him like i did. If you stay on him he seems to eventually communicate. If you call he wont answer but does give you his cell number (wich i never tried). I was worried after i sent in a $680 knife for the custom sheath and didnt hear anything. Then i was actually considering driving up to oregon to retrieve my knife and money after i researched him and his company and saw all the bad reviews and complaints filed against him. i eventually told him i was goin to need the knife back at least, then... POOF! he says its done and is shipping the next day!:) So try emailing him or calling a couple times a day and im sure he'll comuunicate:) Good Luck!!

I left a message on his answering machine (which I've read is always full, it wasn't) gave him my order number and phone number, we'll see what happens.

i don't know if luck is the right word, but he did email me back this morning saying that he was getting it ready now and that he was very busy with other projects. that's fine, i have no problem waiting so long as there is communication. it's when the communication drops off that my mind turns to the darker sides of human nature. i'll tell him thanks for the reply and that i'm happy he's busy (i wish the rest of the country could get back to work to, i had a guy tell me the other day that he has turned down 2 job offers because he feels he deserves unemployment.....asshole, sorry for the rant but that's been bugging me) and i won't bug him again unless it doesn't show up next week. i'll let you know if comes in.

well good to hear. I am on unemployment, it was fun for like the first two months. now it's serious because I can find work! I wish I could get 2 job offers!

i don't have a problem with unemployment. i was collecting too, for 11 months due to a spinal chord injury, but as soon as i was able to walk again i went back to work. hearing people saying they deserve money from the gov just because they have paid into it makes me sick. the gov can't afford it. americans in the 30's were to proud to just accept free money, the gov had to give them stupid jobs counting how many cars went down a certain street a day and other mindless tasks just to keep people busy. but you are right, those first couple months livin off the system are sweet, but after a while not working gets boring (unless you're rich and can sail around the world or something). i just hit a point where all my knives where as sharp as i could get them, my guns where all spotless inside and out and well lubricated, my humidor was at peak humidity, and i beat the hell out of the new super mario brothers, and man did i get bored, i couldn't wait to get back to work............now i can't wait to get my sheath............seems silly getting so excited over a piece of plastic, but i can't wait to go for a hike without that huge blade slappin my leg........best of luck getting back to work!

Hey,cool, go ahead and post pics if you got em...............but, GOOD NEWS, it came in the mail over the weekend and it is AWESOME. So, i have nothing but the best to say about Robert and his company. I should also state that the communication dropped off a while but I did start getting regular responses to my emails, for anybody else that stumbles on this post. I'll try to figure out how to post some pics myself but for now here is a crappy youtube video i made.

Yeah, that last post was supposed to have pics in it. If you have any advice as to how to post pics on here I'll give it another shot. The pics look better the video.
