I just bought a Kukri from KH. If i would have found this forum first I might have went with HI, but too late now. Besides I got a good deal on the KH and there's always room for antoher from HI, right? I bought the buy one get one free aluminum handled ang khola. A friend and I both like the aluminum handles and split the price, so we basically both got a kukri for about 3 bucks shipping apiece.

Anyway, the question. I would like to have a better sheath, something that is durable and versatile. Something that could be strapped to a pack or maybe worn on the back, and affordable. Maybe something in the 50 to 60 dollar range. I might spring more for a good leather one, but that's not the plan at the moment. Right now plastic seems best. Anyone got any ideas?

I found one that seems to fit the bill at Survival Sheath Systems, but in the picture it's riding down at the small of the back and I wonder how well that will work. I also like the survival sheath he has for sale for my Buck 119.

I'm new to the world of Kukri, so I'd appreciate any advice. Anyone have an opinon on the aluminum handled kh's? Thanks.

Welcome, mojorison:)

I think the general take on metal handle khuks is not great. Mainly, it has to do with them getting cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Also, metal tends to transmit shock to the palms a little more than what wood or horn would.

As far as a better sheath goes, I might humbly suggest that you try out your khuk for a good long while before you invest anymore money into it. You might find the metal handle is not to your liking and go for a wood or horn HI. There are several folks around here that make custom sheathes. However, a good quality custom sheath will probably run you more than the 60 bucks you're wanting to spend.

I'm not one of the experts around here. Someone else will be along shortly to answer your question better than I can. I'm just the door man.

Welcome:)

Thanks for the Advice. I don't plan on buying anything till after the khukri arrives and I've tried it out. I'm just shopping around a little. I found one site that had sheaths in that price range that I think was reccomended by someone here, but they were plastic.

The more I read about HI the more I like. I especially like the philosophy of paying the Kamis more for their work. I'll definately be checking into HI for my next purchase.

You all see like a pretty friendly bunch of folks. Glad I found this forum.

We have a member that makes custom sheaths in synthetic material called Eric from On Scene Tactical. He makes sheaths for Chris Reeve. His posting name is Normark. Impressive stuff.

I have an opinion. Get rid of it.
There is a reason that aluminum handled kuks are free. That is what they are worth. Try using it for an hour.
You can form and rivet Kydex pretty cheap.
All you need is a heat gun. And a rivet tool.
