Where can I get a small quantity of leather?

I would like to try my hand at making a sheath for one of my Spyderco Mule Team knives that I recently finished. I stopped at the local Tandy store and they only sold large pieces of leather (Looked like a half side or so.) for about $55.00. One of the knife kit companies sells a one square foot piece for $15.00, but they want $10.00 shipping. I don't really need a half side sized piece, and I don't want to spend $25.00 for a square foot.

Are there any places that I can get a small piece of leather for a sheath at a more reasonable price?

TIA

Knife kits . com sells a square foot for some outrageous price, but it's what you're looking for.

Springfield Leather sells a #2 single shoulder for 5.99 a sq ft. You can buy 5sq ft minimum at that price. That's about the only option I have found that is between the square foot option or buying a larger piece.

Ebay, can get you smaller pieces at a reasonable price. PM me if you want info on a seller I have used before.

Northcoast knives sells by the square foot for around 12 bucks. Shipping is cheap and lightning fast. Cant recommend this guy enough.

Most Tandy stores have a scrap bin, especially if they are older stores. An older store I used to visit many years ago had a bin so big I could literally crawl inside it.

Newer stores may not have this, but its always worth asking, some of these store managers are leather crafters themselves and may have scraps that arent on public view.

Leatherunlimited . com is where I get mine. They sell bundles of scrap leather pieces by the 5 lbs bundle. The price depends on what the leather is. They even sell print leathers like that as well.

The scrap pile at Tandy has been good to me as well. Don't forget to get enough leather to make a strop or 2 while you're making that sheath. :)

I just got in a side from Wickett & Craig, and along with it I ordered a belly just to see what it was like.....I LIKE it!
About 5 sq. ft. of 10oz only cost $9 plus shipping.
I can easily get a few sheaths, holsters, and even a couple single layered belts out of this...and of course, W&C is the best!

I'll be ordering more bellies from them fo sho!!

Here's a picture to give you an idea of the size.....that's me at 6'7''....well, would you believe 5-7??
