could i get it at lowes or home depot, or would i have to get it online? Or maybe a small hardware store would have it?

Lowes, Home Depot, Harbor Freight all should have it in solid tubes. Hand America online is one source of better quality. IMO
Many places online will get it to you in a short time. Just check for any knife making supply sites.

I've never been able to find that stuff at Lowe's or Home Depot. What would you search for? I'd like to broaden my stropping supplies... only have green right now...

I bet asking someone would be the only way to find it and even then they probably wouldn't know where or what it was

Ordering online is a different situation... pretty easy to get that way but you have to pay shipping.

Buying online gives you more choices of what you want. You can get powder, paste or solid. In the local stores you would ask for buffing supplies in the hardware section. Sears use to have a package of about 5 different buffing compounds that were about 1" x 3/4" x 5 " long each. They were black, red, green brown and white. Others stores have them in tubes about 3/4"-1" round about 6" long.

Thanks, will give it a whirl.

At my local Lowe's it's by the rotary tools and comes in a tube with a big 5 on it as well as "High Gloss Polishing" under the Lowe's Task Force brand.
