Okay guys, I have been tasked by our Area council to teach a bunch of boy scouts how to throw knives. So, I need the best quality knives that I can get for a cheap price. Please understand I do not have to have top of the line stuff, just something decent and affordable. So where do I get it?

Thanks

I am slightly familiar with cold steels throwers and I really like Cold Steels product but are they really the minimum for a good thrower?

From my experience, you're not going to find much in the $10-$15 range (per knife I presume) that is any good. About your only chance would be the "Blazing Arrow" throwers seen in smokey mtn and other catalogs. The largest of these (12" if I remember) runs about $13 or used to. They are a Chinese knock-off of the Viper by Harald Moeler
( http://www.horn-net.com/hmoeller/viper.html ). The Blazing arrow hasn't nearly the elegance of the Viper, the steel is pretty crappy, but at least they have some weight and are about the only thrower in that price range that does.

Alternatively, don't teach them with knives at all. Get some screw drivers or other tools and try those. See this article by my friend Ed Sackett at http://www.sonic.net/~quine/knife_lite.html for some tips.

10 - 15 dollars hmmmmm lets see
How many do you need?
Ever think of making your own?
I can help you in that department if you are handy.
Stupid question: How old are you anyway?
How old will the kids be that you teach?
are you looking for heavy medium or letter
opener for weight?

Wow! I had never seen the Viper before. Very nice! I guess blazing arrows it is. I certainly can't afford a bunch of vipers!

Jason... Do you have the large (12") ones? Agree they are POS compared to anything decent, but the 12" ones are heavy at least. The smaller ones are pretty useless all around.
