Where can I get handles for a mini-grip

I finally got the min-grip I wanted, a PE Ritter-grip. Only problem is it's yellow and want it to be black.

I got one heck of a deal on it so handle color is secondary to the blade and the deal I got.

I've been looking over the knife and it looks like I should be able to switch out the handle pretty simply if I am able to find someone that has black handles.

Any ideas fellas?

Yellow is cool, it just stands out a bit. :D

Noob - those handles look nice, but, like you said, they are pretty expensive.

Carrot - I emailed BM and I'll see what they say. I'm not sure how easy it is to change the handles on those things, but I'm willing to give it a try.

I'm going to try and email Don Ritter also. I'm sure he's got some handles laying around.

Why would a dealer have handles laying around? It is not like the handles break on a regular basis.

Benchmade might change them out. Or, more likely, you'll have to buy a version with the handle color of your choice and do the swap yourself.

For those prices, you would be better off buying a new one on the bay for about $50.00. Then after you swap the blades, you will have a yellow mini-grip, and a black Ritter mini-grip.

I've switched handles out before, just undo the pivot screw and pull out the blade and the bronze washers. You will need something thin enough to push the washers into place when you put the blade back on. You will also need something to align the holes on the washers and the blade when you try to put the pivot back in. This part takes a little bit of elbow grease since the wonderful axis lock is constantly putting pressure on the back side of the blade.

What I have done in the past is:

Put the blade into the handle, then insert the bronze washers from the side. Right after you put the washers in, you'll need to use something thin to push then into somewhat of an alignment. Now you insert something skinny into the holes of the washers and the blade. Once you have all of those aligned, stick in the pivot and give it a good hit with a small hammer or press it against something solid and it should pop right into place. Then all you have to do is put the screw back in and it's ready to go.

Hope this helped, J.

I hadn't realized that was a bad idea.... Thanks for filling me in....

Great post, J. Thanks, that helps a lot. Sounds like my best bet is just buying a new knife. I've never really modded a knife I've bought in the past so it's a little new to me. I'll see what I can find in the used market and mess around with it.

Thanks again,
A

just a note-before you go taking these things apart tape up the blade edge. it can save you alot of blood and annoyance.

good luck myright!

You are going to need to buy another mini-grip to get a transplant scales. I would suggest to get maybe a combo edge and keep that in the car.

I've done handle swaps and taken apart grips/mini grips. Just get the right torx sizes and go SLOW. I have a Mini-Ritter "waved" in OD green. My perfect combo...wish it was just G-10 :jerkit:.

Just make sure to take note of what goes where. You'll find that its really simple to do handle swaps.

First pic is of how sharp I've gotten it.

Second pic is just of the 4 knives I've gotten to whittle hair.

That sounds like a no-brainer that I hadn't thought of... :D

Thanks.
